Since I've been looking all around for a place that has information on all possible mangas, I found mangaupdates.com.

I wanted to also keep track of which mangas I've read, which I'm following ,etc. But I didn't see anything like that.

So I'm suggesting a "My Manga List" function so people can keep track of which mangas they've read/are reading/want to read/etc.

^____^

This sounds like a great idea; but is it feasable? 😮

Indeed, nice idea.

How about we add having a "On X List(s)" for the manga titles themselves. That way we'd also know about the popularity of said title. I'm simply suggesting this because there's not enough of a mass to make most review scores valid (does 1 "10" on a title beat 30 votes averaging "8"?).

I have been trying to solve that problem for a long time. Adding more indicators might be a good way of determining popularity.

I think though that the "manga list" idea is very general, and I've already thought about it a bit. I'm currently throwing around the idea. I wouldn't mind more suggestions along this line though of what you'd like to see.

If you choose not to, Manick, Anime News Network has a similar function. Its what I use for this sort of thing. However, I have found that sometimes they don't have a partiucal series. So, in general, I always keep a text file of what I have finished and another of the current places I am at on ongoing stuff.

It'd be a good function to have, though.

Mmm, I have thought of some other features however that would go along with this, which could work together to make a really nice manga tracking/personal database system for people. I've never used anime news network but maybe we can offer users something that they can't get anywhere else. On your note though, of course our system works very differently from other systems. We still report releases even if we don't have a series record for them. In this way we could also let people add series to their records that aren't in the db (And then just add a convienient [Add] button next to it). I also think that this feature would fit very well with the theme of this site, being primarily a manga releases and series info site.

I have an idea to go along with this thats really unique!

What if users could make said lists, and put stuff under "Currently reading" then you can make a profile option, like, weekly, to send the person an email with recent release of series they're currently reading?

This would be helpful to those who work alot, I think. Plus its something ANN doesn't have.

They're feature is VERY usefull, though. As not only does it help you can what you have read or watched, you can keep online lists of manga and anime dvds and other merchandise that you own. Its indexed really nicely.

For an example, here is my dvd list:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/collection.p hp?user=Raoh&categ=5

As you can see, each release has a link to more information in regards to it. I have used this feature for two years since they introduced it. I love this feature. 😀

The databases for this site must be huge...

Anime News Network and AniDB are more focused on animes.
I tried looking for some mangas to put into my manga list in ANN and some of the mangas weren't evne in their lists, while mangaupdates has almost all the mangas that are missing on ANN.

Also since this site shows recent releases of manga, having a manga list that might have a "!" beside it when a new release is out would be pretty cool.

But I am clueless to how to make sites have certain features, etc. so my suggestion(s) might not be very convenient.

Please consider!

😀

Yeah, the only downfall with ANN is that they are missing alot of manga.

I try my best to help with adding stuff in, but its not as easy to add something into the DB, than it is to edit something already in the DB.

Also, AniDB it seems let you put how many episodes of a series you've seen, aswell. Thats a pretty unique feature to have, too.

imdb.com has a similar feature too. There is a link in all the movies to add the movie to "my movies"

In connection to that list idea:
I dont read mangas from all genres, so it would be cool if you could exclude .. err dont show manga releases from genres that you generally dont read.

yeah that has been discussed in other topics. and that idea is in the works and no set timetable(could be weeks or months or years.. <_<) so let's not get into that subject again 😀
