I don't like fanservice
This goes for guys in shoujo series as well
You know, i cant remember the names, but ive seen a few animes/mangas where both guys and girls show "Fanservice". You, my dear mam, are just not looking on the right shelves
I don't want any fanservice in my manga, girl or guy.
Or, it can turn a story thats slightly off into a story that MEANS something. A great feat i might add.
Examples, s'il vous plait. I don't know if I believe that fanservice can make a story mean anything other than titillation.

It is hated because it generally stumps the creative mind; and gets in the way of what could be used for story.
Then, if you don't care about all that, that's fine.
Also, it's called FAN-service. Catering to your fans is something only people who care about money do. Mostly anyway.

To me, fanservice doesn't enhance the story. It's totally unnecessary, and it is there to attract the fans that don't care much for literary merit and a well-construed story as they do for certain "nuances". I don't like it because it disrupts the story.
So basically, I don't want to see an epic fight dragged out too long, or see too much cleavage in a hot guy (is that even applicable?), etc. Just a good, solid, entertaining story.
You'll also find lots of people who love fanservice, and there are whole series that degrade completely into fanservice.

I like fanservice in moderation. If I'm reading a good story and there's a quick panty shot I'm fine with that. It's not really a big deal if it doesn't change the flow of the story. I also like fanservice if it's used to enhance the humor of a funny scene. It doesn't disrupt the flow of the story, it just adds a little more humor to an already funny scene.

I don't like it, unless the whole story is silly to begin with. As for why, it's gratuitous and detracts from the story, either by making the whole thing feel contrived or simply by wasting time that could have been spent on the story, or both.

I think of it that way to, fanservice can be used in the best way for humour.
If you think about it in many rap and hip hop videos there is a lot of fanservice, most of the time worst with more sexualness then you see in a manga.

I'd love an example of this. I've seen way more of the other way-too much* fanservice throwing a decent enough story off kilter.

For all who cant tell, Fanservice does NOT mean "Panty shot here, Chest shot there" Its just a service to the fans, which is why this is a good example
Or.. at least, i percieve it as a great example.
Hayate No gotoku. Now, as i said, fanservice is a service to the fans, whether its a reference to anime, or a reference to soda D:
For the people who think fanservice is limited to arousing images, Theres a series by OH great, Called battle something.... Its scanned by Byahhh i think, and it has a lot of that fanservice, but its in a way that makes the story really funny. Btw, its about wrestling D:

I think your profile picture is proof that you LOVE fan service. Just saying.

Didn't bother reading all 4 pages so I might be re-iterating something.
I think many people dislike fanservice because it gives anime/manga a bad rap. So many people I know refuse to read manga because the think it is only porn in book form read backwards.
Personally, I don't mind fanservice as long as it doesn't take center stage and is kept to a reasonable level. If fanservice is the only reason to return to a series, then somebody needs to fix their shit cause it ain't right yet.

I just chose that profile picture because Love Hina is my favorite manga and that was the best picture I could find. Also, Love Hina is a perfect example of fanservice used to make a funnny scene funnier.

Well basically I wouldn't mind, lol. But, if I'm watching an anime that haves a couple of fanservices and my family is with me, I don't really want them to see it, cause they think that it's...er, yeah. -___-

-Girls hate it becuase they can't enjoy it.
-Mangakas seem to like to use it as an excuse to drag the plot.
-Mangakas make it so fan service may effect the characters.
-it's a series waste of ink, paper, money and time.
(Please note that there are good mangas with fan service, but sadly not many) e.g Love Hina~<3
hmmm...did i leave something out?

And exactly how many fangirls weren't squealing in yaoi joy over the accidental Sasuke x Naruto kiss scene? Fanservice does not equal ecchi get that through your head.

True. Girls can't enjoy fan service aimed at guys, and vice versa.
