I feel the same way. It's pointless and I feel it detracts from the story. Why fill up space and time with countless breasts and panty shots instead of furthering the story.

Just as hoghat said... I read a manga for the STORY. If I needed breasts, gratuitously shirtless bishounen or panty-shots, I'd just buy Playboy or Playgirl. 😛

Fanservice is total and utter crap - a hindrance at best, and an annoyance at worst. It can even stop me from reading or watching a manga/anime altogether. If I hear from people that there's lots of fanservice in a manga or in an anime, I immediately veer off in the opposite direction! No way am I wasting my time on that!

That said, I'd like to differentiate between MEANINGFUL mature content and pointless fanservice. As long as nudity or mature content furthers a story, I'm more than happy with it, but what I can't stand is fanservice that has nothing to do with the plot and does nothing to advance the story or deepen the characters. Urgh. Can't stand the pointlessness...

Totally Agree

Pointless ecchi just make the manga worse and doesn't appeal to me in any way. But mature content that adds to the story is cool and a plus

it just ruined my mood to read if the 'ecchi'ness was overdone.
i can count with one hand any ecchi series i have read.. eden no ori, highschool of the dead, freezing..

well its okay to see an occasional skirt flip by breeze and pantyshot.....kind of an trademark in anime
cliches arent bad.......i mean if there is a serious underlying plot i dont mind the mindless echhi

for examples these manga have pointless echhi but have a good plot going for them so its ok

it pisses me off......because they think all guys are fags and will watch it if a occasion frontal is shown 😛

I actually used to hate fan service so much, but I've grown accustomed to it. 🤣

Fan service is hated probably because it's unnecessary... sure it's okay to show some every now and then, but not all the time... There are some mangas/animes made for fan service, and if it centers on that with no good or decent plot then it will be hated (especially by the girls).

Its like 3d action films, when the fights or scenes are all catered to making things pop out at the viewers, the scenes themselves become dumb. An example of this would be the latest Resident Evil film. I can't even remember how many objects flew at the screen but it jumped the shark when the glasses came flying at you.

"Let's put a smile on that face."

"Why fan service is so hated?" Because there are people with no balls watching those shows, which feature it. Pointless or not, honestly now, a drop of fan-serice = a drop of enjoyment.

"Fan service" is what makes me become a better pervert.

Every "panty panel" is a panel that could have been used to progress the storyline.

For the same reason that the "pretty boys" in manga are hated.
