So I was watching the Discovery Channel last night when
Mega Engineering came on. Normally it's one of the only
things on that channel I don't watch but the topic caught
me by surprise. It was about building a dome over Houston
and, if it works out, building domes over the rest of major
cities to protect against natural disasters and global warming
if it ever gets too extreme. My friend Garrett called and we started
to talk about it and he made a good point, It's just like Big O.
What are your opinions on this subject? Do you think it will be
a good thing, a bad thing, or are you unsure? In a way I think it
could be good but no one can tell for certain.

"Per Huliq News, a team of mega engineers have proposed a giant bubble to shield the weather-battered city of Houston and protect its environment for years to come. The Houston dome could protect the fourth most populous city in the United States from severe storms that it is susceptible to, including hurricanes and tornadoes."

You can read about it here:

Even if it is technically possible I can't imagine living beneath such a dome to be very pleasant. People might develop fears like the breathing air could run out or the dome could crash down, even if those fears are totally groundless. Fears are irrational after all.
And there's the issue of it never raining inside the dome which adds to the unpleasantness and might prove fatal to the ecosytem inside.
So I think it would make the city rather unattractive to live in.

Don't mind, but they better not tender it.
Contrary to stoned philosopher, I think living
under one could work out on the psychologial
level. The places we nowadays live are far from
the wilderness we used to inhabit and all is still
working out. Watering systems exist for the plantation.

it sounds unlikely, the only reason why i can see this actually happening is if the ozone layer gets striped out or something

Well sadly they are actually working on it.
I don't really think it's going to work out.
They built much smaller ones in
different climates around the world and
they seemed to work but no one was living
in them granted they were too small for human
life but still. It's best to test it out on one single
person before a whole city. I think they should hold
off on their plan.

If you say theyre working on it, I fear its involved something like "Glasses Inc.(fictitious name)" or another major of the materials. Else it'd be only a futuristic, wishful thinking, planning to construct a dome over a city.
Sadness 🙁

It probably have to be a group rather than a single person because the pyschological effects this would bring to a person would be different if he was alone or not... I mean this could cause like some new type of cluasterphobia to people... 🙁

I live in Houston, and I don't believe I've heard anything about this. It's a horrible idea, here's why:

Houston is HUGE. It's not just the population, but it is one of the most sprawled-out cities in the US.

It's so stupid, though. People should try to help cut down on things which have caused serious pollution, ever see the Galveston Coastline?

Instead of wasting god knows how much money on something like this, why not instigate programs that reward people for doing things like recycling, cleaning up, etc?

Houston doesn't have a good public transport system, either. It's so pathetic. If there were a train that went out to where I live, I'd be happy because I wouldn't have to drive a car. But since a bunch of losers think that having a high-speed rail system would somehow 'kill' the "Texan spirit of True Mobility", they try to halt the plans to build a train.

Texas is so rich, they should have no problem building this monstrosity. But instead, why don't they clean up the stupid city?

Texas has weather? That's news to me. Seriously, though, the idea of living under a dome just feels so...Jetsons to me if you know what I mean.
I find the whole thing amusing. On the one hand, people whine and whine about how we're destroying the environment and we need to live "as one" with nature and yada yada yada and then you have people trying to create fake weather in Houston (granted, they're probably different people)...
