Help Me Name My Website!

Okay, so I'm not actually Sam Broadbeck, but my name is similar, I guess? Lol. But I'm facing the same dilemma - my full name name is taken in the .com domain, and I want a viable alternative that still includes my name in some way.
And I don't want to go for the lesser-used domains, like .info, since... I just don't. 😀
Any suggestions?

How about using your actual name...perhaps? lol

Hahaha, of course I'll use my actual name on the website, but in this example, I'm going with Sam Broadbeck. (This is because I don't want to reveal my RL identity on MangaUpdates, since I talk about stuff like my sexuality here in a frank sort of way, and I don't want to unintentionally out myself to my co-workers or something. Lol.)
So just imagine that my name is Sam Broadbeck for this example, okay? 😀 The advice will still be valid, since the main issue I have to surmount is that my full name is already taken in the .com domain, and I need viable alternatives.

Oh, hey, the numerical solution. Thanks, Sagaris! It'll work, but I'm trying to avoid using numerals or other kinds of non-alphabetical characters if possible (with the exception of the hyphen, since I like hyphens - lol).

It depends on what you are going to use your website for really.
If I were you I would try and come up with some sort of alias, nickname, or business name for the domain name. The only reason you would want a website named after you was if you were famous, a designer/artist/etc.. trying to draw clients who know you by name to your website, or maybe for a resume website.
Anyhow.., I would probably avoid the hyphen one and the *.net one.

I really appreciate your in-depth comments, vanpaia!
Um... I kind of am an artist who is establishing an online reputation based on my actual name (which is also my professional name), so nicknames are out of the question, unfortunately. And my resume/CV will be on the website, too, along with a portfolio of sorts... It isn't quite a business website, more like a personal promotion website, so business names are impossible, too.
That said, had I been a business, I probably would've gone with your advice. 🙂
May I know your reasons for avoiding the hyphen one and the *.net one? I know next to nothing about the advantages/disadvantages of domains, so any insight about that would be very welcome!
And @eccentrrick, that sam.broadbeck.com idea is great! But does that qualify as a subdomain? How would I go about setting that up, especially if the domain broadbeck.com was owned by someone else? Can one register a subdomain separately? intensely curious

@tartufo,
Yes it is a subdomain! (I forgot to mention details.) If broadbeck.com/net is already taken I don't think it's possible to register a subdomain under it, since you've gotta own the root domain as well. (well, if I'm wrong, someone correct me. I'm not a pro.) Sorry for throwing suggestions in the wind. ):
Anywho, how about incorporating your middle name (if you have one) to your domain to have more uniqueness?

how can you have a sub domain if you don't have the domain?! The whole sub domain idea is based on the assumption that you have the domain. you can't divide from 0.
(sub domain is dividing from domain sort of)
if you must use your name. Be creative and have a descriptive word sandwiched in there or something
like bretthehitmanheart.com williamcrazywillie.com something

Why don't you just add in your art "area" (the area which your an artist in)
Example:
www.sambrodbecksmusic.com
or novels, paintings, sculptures and so on...
or simply:
www.sambrodbecksart.com
or arts
or you can have it before the name.
www.[Name]s(perhaps a DOT, Perhaps not)[Art Area].com
If you want to succeed
Then you don't need Good Luck
You need the ability to overcome Bad Luck

.net domain names are usually for internet infrastructure/technology related sites (i.e. service providers, web hosting, etc..)
.com domain names are the most professional and widely recognized extension. Good status symbol as well that signifies your web presence and portrays professionalism.
avoiding hyphens is mostly for aesthetic reasons (like the .com domain name). It also avoids the confusion of people forgetting the hyphen and ending up at a different site. It is easier to tell people about your website by mouth as well.
- I really like Lightmare's suggestion in the previous post. If that is applicable to your situation I would consider that.

Lmao! I'd probably make a LOT more money if that was the business I was running! Thanks for putting a grin on my face; I'm going to secretly going around thinking of my website that way, even if nobody else knows it. Good thing I didn't come up with Sam Bareback for my pseudo-name, or we'd be dealing with a different kind of establishment, altogether... 😀
Lightmare, that's an awesome suggestion! I'll try to see if I can come up with something! The trick is to avoid things with a possessive apostrophe, because for entirely personal reasons (I'm weirdly nitpicky with certain kinds of grammar), I want to avoid a situation where the should be an apostrophe, but can't be. So, like, samsart.com (for "Sam's Art") won't be possible, but maybe samdraws.com will? Hm...
@vanpaia, YOU HAVE WON THE INTERNETS (AND MY HEART). Thank you so, so much for that excellent explanation! I feel like I understand so much more about domain-naming and how I should go about choosing mine. Just. <3.
