Tales of Symphonia: I like Presea or Lloyd, but occasionally I like to be Raine since it requires no special button-jamming combo haha.
It's kinda nice being in the back of a battle and watching out for others.

As much as I love that game to pieces, I refuse to see it as a fighting game.

As for controllers, I used to use a pad, although I was so picky that it's not even funny.

Recently I bought a cheap $40 stick for some shooters, but it ended up sucking for that purpose. It's better for fighters, but still nothing worth mentioning.

I'm not a big enough player to spend big bucks on a HRAP with sperately purchased Happ buttons or whatever.
