Sequels that are actually good?

does that even exist? A sequel that is good or even better than the original?
I'm talking about all mediums-manga, anime, movies,ect.
I'm not talking about series, because the sequel to a book(novel) makes it a series, right? I mean where a series has ended, then the author comes up with a sequel to-i dont know, give us insight to their lives 10 years later or something?
but take for example the Shrek movies. The sequels were alright, but they dont even light a candle to the original Shrek. I don't need to hear about their babies and whatnot. And i guess the Harry Potter movies. They've been getting progressively worse and worse(in my opinion).
so, anything? 🙂
edit: sorry can someone move this please? 🙂

I always thought that Spider-Man 2 was better than the first one (Not saying that the original was bad though).
Another one I thought was better than the first was Terminator 2 which IMO is the best movie James Cameron has done.
Also, this should be in Chatter Box, seeing how you're talking about more than manga.

agreed terminator 2 was awesome as, much much better than its prequel or sequels. Matrix 2 was also better than matrix in my opinion.

Both the The Two Towers and Return of the King were better than Fellowship of The Ring in my opinion, especially Return of the King(I love Viggo Mortensen). At World's End was my favorite Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
in video games: Super Mario Galaxy 2 > Super Mario Galaxy
Fallout 3 (not really a sequel but I believe its the best in the Fallout series 😀 )
in manga: Rosario to Vampire Season II > Rosario+Vampire

In manga (yaoi), I think the sequel The Carp on the Chopping Block Jumps Twice is even better than the first book The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese (and actually, its rating here is higher).

Games:
Ar Tonelico 2, Shadow Hearts Covenant
I thought these sequels were good. They were better than the original in a lot of ways. But that's just my opinion. I still prefer SH1 to SHC because of the whole Alice/Yuri thing and because the game has a darker feel to it. But SHC is still a very good game.
Star Trek (2009) was amazing!!
but i guess its more of a prequel
also Gears of War 3, and pokemon silver/gold version,
which blew yellow red and blue out of the water

The movies did get worse, yah (they have never really been good to be honest, it's just kinda neat to see the special effects/visualization, but that's about it). The books however, get better as the series progresses. Movies can never seem to hold a candle to a good book (as directors don't always know what to cut or what to save, and they never show everything in the story).
Kill Bill Vol 2 was as good (for me) as Vol 1.
Ace Ventura (just the first two, not whatever spinoffs they've done since) were both on par with each other (I love the second movie now, but when I first saw it, I hated it...).
Indiana Jones the third movie was better than the first and the second (though the 4th was a horrid thing I wish was never made)
Austin Powers kept up through all 3 movies.
X-Men, I hated the first movie, the second was by far better, I don't remember the 3rd one well, but it had to be better than the first.
The first Star Wars movie was always a bit on the boring side compared to the sequels
And The Lord of the Rings also progressed either the same or better as it went on (though, it's less a set of movies as just one large, long movie, since the books were written long before it was filmed, and filming was done all at once).
I'm sure there are lots more, part of it would just be personal tastes though for some, as I bet a few like the first X-men movie better than the sequels (to each their own!)
Edit A few of those would be considered a series, got thrown off by the Potter reference! (since it's a series.)
And so as not to make a second post, (just got reminded from reading another) Spiderman 2 was the only one of the 3 films I cared for, 3 just blew, and 1 seemed rather immature, just never liked it.

Spider-Man 2 was the first thing that came to my mind too. I think it's the only time when I've loved the sequel as much as the first movie. They were both awesome.
Let's not go anywhere near the 3rd movie. In fact, forget it exists.
