I think you should add Bara aka (Gei Comi) as a genre
What's Bara you say? Well Bara is a Japanese jargon term for a genre of art and fictional media that focuses on male same-sex love and desire, usually created by and for homosexual men. basically a realistic view of the homosexual lifestyle, no effeminate men and usually no "Uke's or Seme's since both play an active role as Giver and Reciever.
Yaoi which is usually by women for women is the COMPLETE opposite
Manga Updates should add bara aka (gei comi) as a new genre because let's say someone wants to read bara instead of your typical yaoi you have to search all through the yaoi genre to find whose scanlaating it thus having a bara(gei comi) section will eliminate some of the search. 😛
Second this. I usually find bara mangas under "yaoi" genre, it will be nice if bara would have their own category.

I don't like this idea.
Bara is another form of Yaoi, even if it focuses on different things and is written a different way, it still focuses on male-male relationships, right?
If we were to add this, whats stopping people from complaining that we don't have "incest" or "guro" as genres, as well?
There won't be coming new genres any time soon.
If only that keywords system got implemented...! Dx

I don't know about the other genres but bara deals with more realistic homosexual relationships

Seconded. O_O
And erm, can't you just tell which is Bara by the cover pic? .__. From what I've read in that Bara thread it's not so hard to distinguish between, well...normal BL.
And just because it's different from Yaoi doesn't mean it's a whole different genre. I think you mean 'tags'...

Not really. Bara is a differente genre as shonen is not seinen and yuri is not yaoi. Bara is not yaoi, is bara.

Because incest or guro are not genres, bara is.

Can you tell when is seinen or shonen by the cover pic? I bet not. It's impossible to tell if is bara or yaoi just by the cover pic or the summary. You need to start to read the manga to discover.

How To Find Bara In English
Usually yaoi readers detest bara and vice-versa. It's for different audiences. I detest bara myself and stumble upon bara mangas by accident because they are not categorized as bara but as yaoi. And those who want to read bara have the hardest time trying to find a title amongst thousand of yaoi titles.

Yaoi is technically a different genre than g-comi, but the terms used on this website aren't really the accurate terms for everything, they're the terms used by most of the English-speaking fandom. I think if we make this change we'll have to make a lot of other changes, too. For now we could just tag all g-comi titles with "yaoi" and "seinen" and hope for the best.

Second!! The styles are completely different, especially if you look at the yaoi vs. bara series by mangaka who converted genres. It's just inaccurate to label bara manga under yaoi.

I also believe that bara should be recognized as an individual genre and need to receive its on search tag. it's no longer a yaoi sub genre but a full-fledged sizzling genre who worth to be recognized.
BARA refers to gay manga typically created by men for men.
You could say, Bara is the big brother or maybe more like
the older, more perverted uncle of Yaoi...
