So I was wondering, since it has an anime series, should I watch Revolutionary Girl Utena, or should i read it? Does the anime's plot drift away too much from the original manga story? Or is the anime a good rendition? Help help, quickly pleaseeee smile

The anime, movie, manga, movie manga, and yes even the novel, are all seperate continuities and they aren't true adaptations of each other. The manga and manga are where it all started, but the anime is way better and also quite different from the manga. If you want to know why Utena is so loved by people, you should watch the anime. It's one of the great anime classics/cornerstones you are practically required to watch. It's got great visuals, one of the best Japanese voice tracks (R.I.P. Tomoko Kawakami), amazing music (really have to listen to it), and the directing by Kunihiko Ikuhara is godly. The manga is, well it depends what your opinion is. It's really different, as I mentioned, and many people even fans of the anime find it inferior. In the community, when you say you are an RGU fan, people assume you mean you like the anime. I'd say a majority of fans have only watched the anime. In my opinion the manga is really uncomfortable to read for me, it really is an example of bad shoujo. Everything is underdeveloped.

Okay sorry for wall of text, I think I've written enough reasons. Just go with the anime.

I must agree, Only saw the anime and the movie. Liked it a lot, in particular the music, and in the movie the danceing scene.

Oh yeah, the movie is also really good. That dancing scene is so sweet...

Another thing I want to say about the anime that I think is the most important part for me, is that the characters always have motives for doing what they do, something that wasn't really in the manga. The anime is a lot more about character developement and I didn't like how the manga seemed to run only on its concept instead of strong characters and plot.
