sorry i'm posting another topic so soon, but my time is getting short!
i'm spending oozes of money on manga from the us, and since i'm going to tokyo soon, i thought it would be a good idea to get some from there. but wherever i read they say i can only get japanese manga. are there some shops where i can get some english tokyopop and viz and stuff? i'm not looking for obscure ones, just general lovely complex, bleach etc.
i'm trying to learn the alphabets before i go but it's just so hard. i'll be so lost once i get there but shoot away.. 😕

You'll probably end up paying more for them there than in English-speaking countries like the US, UK and Australia.

First off, the manga is originally in Japanese, it wouldn't be likely they'd send it to the US to get translated then readily import it back to Japan in case tourists come over. There are bilingual titles that I know of, but the ones I know are only CLAMP's Card Captor Sakura.

Secondly, even if you find them, you have to realise that you'll be paying an additional charge for shipping from the US to Japan. On the off chance you find English manga at a cheaper price than those from the US, the additional shipping fees will probably put them higher.

I suggest you buy figures, posters and other hard to find stuff while you're in Japan than get manga

but i already pay tons of money for shipping, so it's almost the same price.i don't live in us. 😔

It's pretty odd to buy manga translated to English when you're in Tokyo. But...
Apparently, you're not alone in being so oddly inclined. I've seen English manga sections on the foreign language floor in two separate Kinokuniya bookstores, at least.

The easiest one of those to find is probably the south branch in Shinjuku. It's south of Takashimaya department store and Tokyu Hands (which it's right next to). Take some kind of train to Shinjuku station (a lot of them pass by there, just pick one) and go for the new south exit ( 新南口 ). Any exit to the east is fine, but that one seems to be the closest. Proceed south, passing Takashimaya and Tokyu Hands, and there it is. Foreign language books are on some floor high up, but not the very top one. 7, maybe?

But note that they don't have that many different manga, so please don't expect too much. On the other hand, you can always combine your outing with some sightseeing around Shinjuku. Though, the funniest sights in east Shinjuku don't come out until it's gotten dark 😉

Yeah, pnyxtr is right. They have actually Enligsh manga in Tokyo, but the selection is very small. I am on vacation in Tokyo and today I checked both Kinokuniya Book stores and maruzen book store (another english manga book store in Tokyo) today and I can be the second person who confirm it. But as other guys have said the selection is small, but it's still good. In Maruzen I found some volumes of many famous manga like DBZ, Naruto and all of the One Piece volumes (don't know why). Anyway, most of the volumes are from Viz media with good language, but I found some of the first Naruto volumes from another publisher too, Actually I bought some of the recently published volumes of Naruto and Bleach in Kinokuniya. About the price I can say you will save some bucks if you buy them here than in America. For me that lives in Norway I would say I saved some bucks because then I had to pay some money for the shipping too. But if I had bought those on net it would be even. For example you can buy Naruto volume 61 for 1, 205 yen that would be around $ 12 and 75 NOK.
As a summary, if you want to buy enligsh manga in your trip to Tokyo, Maruzen and Kinokunya book store is some of the best places to do that. 😀
