Hi. I've often used mangaupdates to know what a certain series is about. I was wondering if you would also add an ISBN info? I tried looking over the net for some series. Some I found, some I just gave up on. There is a chance that I haven't given it my all in looking for them, but it's just a thought that you might want to add this feature? Just a suggestion. 😛

PS. I've send a request for an acct upgrade. Sorry, it's okay to ignore that 🤢

Well I've actually considered doing this..

I haven't bought many books.. but do running series (with multiple volumes) have different ISBN for each volume?

yes, each volume in a running series have different ISBN numbers. It's to easily identify them when ordering them in bookstores or online. It's easier for store clerks to look for them than just having the title and name of the mangaka.

EDIT: I got acct upgrade (thanks!). I wanted to ask if it's okay to start including the ISBN of the mangas I know and where I should place them? I was thinking of under the Publisher but it's written that I should only add if there are more than 1 publisher.

Don't put anything for now. I was afraid that the ISBN were different per manga volume... that's why i haven't put it in in the past... I might add a page to do this in the future, but i'm afraid for now there's no where to put it. 🙁

I'll put it in my list and hopefully I can get it done within the next month. Please check back here often because I will keep this in mind. Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂

So .. I hope it's alright to bump this.
Old thread but been thinking 'bout this topic.

Was wondering if MU will consider adding on the ISBN info,
please it would help a lot in searching the actual jpn manga to buy.

Thanks.

There's no decent way to handle long-running manga like One Piece, which has over 60 volumes, and thus over 60 ISBNs. Once you consider the different languages in which it's published, the number of ISBNs to track starts to get a bit ridiculous.

There are so many manga series with multiple volumes. It would be really hard. If you need to search for Japanese manga, why not just copy+paste the Japanese title into Kinokuniya/Yesasia?

The most complete database of ISBN for manga I could find was amazon.co.jp.
-- I'm now using Kinokuniya, so far it's working good. I've been able to scrape roughly 98% of my known ISBN.

My own manga volume cover database also lists ISBN for volumes with a barcode on the backside (automatically scanned)... It currently contains just over 6300 and it's increasing regularly.
Sadly I've not yet been able to successfully extract ISBN from "older" manga (those that only have the number in text, not barcode).
-- Been trying to get this done with OCR, yet it's very glitchy and doesn't even work most of the time (inserting misc. characters at random a.o.)... Would require some further tweaking and testing.

Lookup can be done by simply entering the ISBN (without dashes) into the search field.

Edit: small update
