To Tsubaki, obviously. It seems to me that there's been some foreshadowing (mostly through jokes) that Jouran Hijiri might become interested in Kanoko. He's obsessed with the image of "Tsubaki" that he has in his mind; a competent mirror counterpart to himself, with the same kind of mind, the same ideas, the same tactics. Tsubaki has already shielded Kanoko from his scrutiny due to his constant paranoid-yet-cute jealousy, but it's not paranoia if they're really out to get you, is it? If Hijiri does find out, all of those things will transfer to Kanoko, and even if he protests that he doesn't find Kanoko appealing in any way, she's still a girl, and she's the protagonist of a shoujo manga with at least some romantic elements in it. You know as well as I where this is going.

Personally, I have a small headfic where Hijiri finally realises he's been defeated, falls to his knees in front of Tsubaki and Kanoko, and finally gets who the real mastermind has been from the orgasmic face she'll be wearing at her moment of victory. Birds of a feather...

Also, let's see if this subforum can be brought to life. There's really no convenient long-time discussion forum for Ai Dano that I know of, except for the Mngf*x forums, and that seems a bit rude towards the Koi Dano Scans who are asking readers to boycott it. 😀

Sure, of course sooner or later a rival will show up. At least somebody other than Tsubaki and the gangs has to eventually see the wicked cool Kanoko ( which makes all of us addicted to the story). So it might as well be this Jouran from the board-casting club, but he's rather a bit of a disappointment if you ask me. I have not a single fragment of fondness for him at all since his first appearance. Maybe another character will show up, a transfer student for example.

Though let's give Tsubaki some sympathy. It's exactly like he said once before. it's going to be a long drawn-out battle. Well, he will pull it off somehow.

Well, it's probably just me seeing a lot of foreshadowing put there to mess with my mind. 😀 A "transfer student" rival seems quite unlikely to me, though, mainly because there is no need for that particular trope, because the whole school is still untapped for its full potential of characters. A transfer student character is either introduced at the very beginning of a series (and is most likely the protagonist), or at a later stage when things are a bit stale and it doesn't make sense to introduce a new character from the ranks of the ordinary school populace, because the transfer student is usually strange or awesome enough that they couldn't have been left off-screen if they'd been present all the time at the school. At the moment, we're still going through new characters from the school itself.
Besides, transfer students always end up fighting secret virus monster creatures, which I don't see likely for Koi Dano. 😀

I definitely have been thinking that guy is working his way to love rival mode, though I doubt it will work out too well. I mean, I can't see Kanoko falling for him, ever, for multiple reasons (not the least of which is the fact that she doesn't seem to care, or know, that much about love).

His main use, I predict, will just be to make Tsubaki even more jealous and probably 1- create distance/problems between Tsubaki and Kanoko as he gets even more possessive and irritates her, and then 2- give Tsubaki an opportunity to confess. Bu whatever happens, I'm looking forward to it.

All I know is, Tsubaki and Kanoko had better be together by the end, haha.

Agree. Hijiri is probably there to drive the development of their relationship. Tsubaki and Kanoko are together is to be expected, but I can still see this image "Kanono, at moment of notice, jumps over to Momo and forget about Tsubaki on the side." I feel so bad for Tsubaki though, his love life is a long harsh path. 🤣

I totally agree with teh rivals, and that she'll try to get Hijiri and Tsubaki together, all in which woud develope the rivalhood. And she, being as she is, will be tootally oblivious to it all until for some reason Tsubaki mans u and tells her straight out.

I was thinking the same thing! I find it so cute Kanoko wants Tsubaki to have more friends and declaring her intentions by telling him to rely on her had me about fall over.

And I agree with you, Snakering, Hijiri seems to be the one thing that will push Tsubaki and Kanoko together in the end. Of course! Haha. Can't wait for the next round.

That gives an extra cute fact to their romance since until just a while ago Tsubaki was driving off whoever approached Kanoko too closely, and still has problems with it.

I understand how the release will be slow since the translator is having some health problems but I'm dying to see the next chapter. 😀
But I wonder if it's really Hijiri who's going to raise problems for Tsubaki...? Having that girl from the broadcasting club swallow her words about Tsubaki being a lolicon, and falling head over hills for Kanoko would be hilarious. 🤣

Spoilers for chapter 10 and 11, based on Chinese scanlations and a summary for chapter 10:

I think we can all see the pretty simple parallell that Sayuri:Hijiri :: Tsubaki:Kanoko, Sayuri is to Hijiri what Tsubaki is to Kanoko, at least in temperament. Sayuri and Tsubaki get along like a house on fire, if that house on fire was filled with territorial cats fighting for catpremacy over all of catdom. Here the spoilers kick in: in chapter 10, Sayuri gets Kanoko to join the beaty pageant so that "Kanoko can keep an eye on Hijiri". In chapter 11, though I haven't yet seen any summarylation, it seems she helps Kanoko backstage with makeup etc., and Kanoko... acts super-cute towards Sayuri. And then we see Sayuri blushing after a flashback of that.

Point is, instead of Hijiri being a rival to Tsubaki, I think we might see a situation where Sayuri "falls" for Kanoko... Just like that picture in Warau Kanoko, where we see Kanoko in a Navy suit, leaving all the "girls in every port" behind her. :D And because Sayuri doesn't get along with Tsubaki (because they are too similar), it will be a more tense dynamic than the previous Momoka/Tsubaki thing.

Oh I can't wait to read chapter 10 and 11 then. I wonder how Tsubaki will react upon seeing Kanoko with make up and so... It'd be awesome if he got a nose bleed XD

Does anyone else really want Kanoko to call Tsubaki by his first name? I got a mental image of it for some reason, and I want to see him blushing and stammering and at an utterly complete loss for words.

I also sincerely hope Hijiri finds out soon that Kanoko is the mastermind. I think any confrontation they have (though it's going to make things miserable for poor Tsubaki), will be epic.

Oh yes. I am for epic! Especially since Tsubaki isn't easily one to blush except when it comes to Kanoko.

I don't think he's going to be a romantic rival, but I'd like to see a new member in the newspaper club cause trouble for Tsubaki! I think it would be the ideal environment because this way it would be someone who shares an interest with Kanoko. Maybe someone who also analyzes people? Idk, but I can't wait to see it!
