What do you think of older manga?
Don't have many, but I don't really see them any differently. Sure the art is different, but as long as it is readable I don't mind it. In some circumstances the difference in the art style is even a welcome change.
I'm not a fan of the art style, but there are some out there that I managed to read without getting put off by the drawings.

i don't prefer old manga.
though recently i read them a lot. some of them have very interesting ideas.
their art maybe not as good and detailed, but with a decent plot, they are still better than manga that wholely rely on moe and fanservice.
@fizfiz & Avian3 : same here 😀

Out of my top 5, 3 were made before 2000, and 2 were made before I was even born. I love the older manga, it has depth. My all time favourite is Banana Fish. I put off reading it for ages because of the art, and am so sorry I did because it is an epic story and I love the different art styles you get in older manga. Of course I also have some recent manga which I love, but the older manga just seem to have deeper plots and better character development.

I also like them. I like some current art styles too but I do love the 80s to 90s style(as it evolved and changed throughout those years).

I usually hate the artwork of older manga, but if the storyline is good I can put up with crappy art

I generally tend to like older manga. The 80's and 90's is like the Golden Age for manga. Artists and writers were still experimenting with the form before moe became the clarion call of the unwashed masses. I think there is a lot more variety in terms of art in the older series. But I agree, some of the stuff drawn was not very good, even for its time. I don't know how many people read Oh My Goddess but in the beginning the art had much left to be desired, It was nice, but kinda meh. over the years and into today the art got better and better. Now its like night and day. It's the same style but the artists had twenty years to fix certain things. Although personally in general I like the art from the early to mid 90's best. It still had stuff I liked from the older styles but it was rounder? softer? It was showing signs of modern manga without being overkill.
Sarcasm just doesn't work over the internet.

I like the older manga, but no more or less than I do the current manga 😉
The older manga has a different feel to it, possibly because of the art or the storyline; whereas the newer manga has a completely different feel. I can't deny that I prefer the art in more recent manga though 😀

Not necessarily original, but most are more thoroughly developed and deeper. Much of the manga these days make me feel like they're low quality, mass produced products. 😔
I agree completely. A lot of the "older" manga I read are amazing. Perhaps it's just that the older manga that last through the decades happen to be the amazing ones, but most of the older manga I stumble upon--Hagio Moto's works, Shimizu Reiko's works, Souryo Fuyumi's works, and, most recently, Tamura Yumi's works (among others)--are quite impressive.
The art, despite the style that is initially a bit jarring, always seems to entrance me, and I end up loving it anyway. I love the idea that these styles were the "popular" medium for artistic expression a decade or three ago. It's interesting and quite telling to see how the styles change. It says a lot, I think, about people and the times we live in.
Or maybe that's just what I think. ^^;

I used to just not care one way or the other- yeah, if a manga has pretty art then I'll be more likely to notice it, but once I start reading then it's not a big deal.
BUT, after reading some really good older mangas, I decided enjoy them often a lot more than current ones. They're deeper, don't feel as cliched, more thought out... of course there are bad ones, too, but I have a huge respect for old manga now. 😀

I'm a mega fan of older manga. I prefer late 60's-80's, though. I feel that the 70's were the golden age of manga. As for 90's manga; I don't always like it. It's an amazingly unique and interesting thing though! Because it was before the millennium & everyone was speculating on what would happen, with a sort of buzz in the air, humanity feeling such uncertainty; many of the mangas from that time seem to have an amazing, almost epic sort of feel to them. They have a beautiful desperation. From end of the world mangas, mecha, & crime fighting; Even some of the romantic mangas show that feeling. It's very interesting to me. And the style of the art & heroes/villains is also so unique, lol. Anyways! I love older manga.

Much Better. Today they focus way to much on Moe stuff. Not everything needs to be kawaii uguu~!!

I tend to judge most manga by their art so I'm not a huge fan of them. I havn't really picked one up except Sailor V and I have yet to finish it.
