Kaioh writes: *Manga artist NINOMIYA Tomoko reported on her personal blog on Tuesday that she has carpal tunnel syndrome, and thus has continued to put her Nodame Cantabile series on hold. She said that her hand would get numb when she tried to write words a month after she gave birth to a boy on October 24. The symptoms gradually spread to both arms to the point that there was swelling and eventually pain, especially in the morning when she woke up. She went to a doctor who confirmed the diagnosis.

Ninomiya took time off from her manga drawing in October, the last month of her pregnancy, to have her baby. After her baby was born on October 24, she reported in a November 3 blog entry that she could not raise her right arm because an unknown pain in her shoulder and arm.

I feel bad for her. It must be frustrating, taking a long brake from work AND having difficulties rasing her child.

ps hope she gets better soon.

I hope she gets better soon, I can't imagine it is to have a 3 month old and not being able to use my arm ;__;

Wow, I hope she gets better soon.
She is an amazing manga artist.
And right after her pregnancy she finds this...
I wish her luck. Such an amazing person she is.

I wish for her to regain all of her health back. It must seriously be terrible for her not to be able to take care of her baby and move her arms.
I seriously hope that it doesn't get worse, and I know this must mean little to her since there's no way to help her, but I do hope for her well being and her baby's.

Oh dear D:
I really hope she gets better!
I'll miss Nodame in her absence, but obviously personal health comes before comics 😛

Wow, here I was waiting for her to get off of maternity leave, once her infant got older, but now this D= I feel kinda bad for her. So in the mean time, no Nodame for us, but obviously this is way more important. I hope she'll be okay after the...whatever they do T^T

Having to hold the manga off for the baby, and now for this? She must be feeling so horrible. But it's okay. We will patiently wait for her to get better.

I'm afraid wishes for her to 'get better' may be in vain. A relative of mine has this condition (he was actually born with it), and on the whole it's something that can be managed but not cured. I only hope it's a misdiagnosis (which apparently is a common occurrence with this condition) and it proves to be something less damaging in the long run. However even if it has been correctly diagnosed, it doesn't necessarily mean she won't be able to draw again, just that she'll have to be careful and take it slowly (I'd guess that's pretty hard to do in the manga world though...)

I'm afraid you are correct.
If it isn't a misdiagnosis the chances are slim that she will get back to drawing in the near future. Especially that she has an infant to take care of.
Even after she raised her child she might not draw.
Well just hope it's a misdiagnosis which is common for overworked people, because nerve dysfunction from sustained damage cannot be cured with surgery (they cut the transverse carpal ligament to prevent more nerve damage). Google it. It is pretty serious.

Hmmm... Carpal tunnel syndrome is often caused by blood clots and other issues. I dunno though... about proper treatment. Conventional medicine like drugs/surgery/physio-therapy or alternative like acupuncture, I guess?
