Looking for an old game

I'm looking for an old game that I used to play
I don't remember the name but it was about this excavator who dug through sand and got jewels.
The death of the character was when it touched a monster, at that time it would be stoned and a R.I.P. tombstone would show up (funny how I remember this the most 🙂 )
I also remember the monsters included bees which just swarmed around the excavator and pink monsters which used to go back and forth.
Any ideas?

Dig Dug?
What did you play this on?

I believe this is what you're looking for
Digger: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digger_%28video_game%29

Nope. It's not Dig Dug or Digger. The character actually looked human.
I used to play it 10 years ago on a computer simulator. So I'm not sure of the original platform.
I don't know why I remembered it now, but it kinda feels nostalgic
EDIT: If it's any help, I very vaguely remember the name starting with a 'v'. This might be completely wrong though.

Lemmings
or
Cuthbert Goes Digging?
I'll look some more, but these are two I found that involved digging.
Edit: found Mr. Do!, not sure if it fits your description though.
It may be helpful if you could describe the graphic style? Was is like 8 bit or 16 bit?

You might be thinking of Digger Dan for the ZX Spectrum

Antiquely, thank you for your suggestions but these are not it.
I remember the sand was brown not green as in many of these game.
Thanks
EDIT: Not Digger Dan, interesting game though...
BTW, the R.I.P. stone that I talked about filled a separate screen, not in place of the dead character.

The only other games I could find in my search are Manic Miner and Pitman 7 both for the ZX Spectrum.

Thank you for your suggestions forgottenone666... Alas, it's not one of these.
I remember it having slightly better graphics than those ZX Spectrum games.
How do you search for these anyways? Is there a website that orders games by genre? Hopefully with one of these genres being "Digger games" 🙂

Nah I just kinda did a bunch of searches in google with different words from your description and then tried to piece together some possibilities.
But alas it seems the game you're looking for is pretty obscure because I didn't really find anything substantial after searching through various articles.
