uhhh... you know there's the My Documents folder in windows that you can use like that, probably even meant to be used like that... and you can make a shortcut to it and place the shortcut anywhere you want (quick launch). Same for OSX, the home folder, which opens by default with each new Finder window... just keep cramming the stuff in there or set the default save paths into them.
But here's my current one, just something I hastily slapped together because I wanted to have Death on my desktop: screenshot

I know...I just did this cause my My Docs is on my D:/ drive which is full
