The OS is Crunchbang a distribution of Linux. Linux has most browsers you are familiar with. Firefox, Google Chrome (Chromium) and if you are fucking nuts you can even getsome of the IE's working with WINE.

Gan is just using a text based web-browser and music-player more out of preference (maybe a bit of necessity due to being on a notebook). There are text based web-browsers for Windows and OSX as well. Some people love them due to there speed of use (when you get used to using just keyboard to operate them) and low requirements. It's an acquired taste for sure bigrazz

The resolution is unrealistic. It's due to using a dual-screen with the second on it's side. The top-left corner isn't actually there.

It's actually Debian (unstable Sid branch), but customized to heavily mimic CrunchBang. Reason I compiled my own was because of the newer kernel, which is more suited to the EXT4 and Btfrs file system/structure.
The terminal apps are more preference than necessity. Netbook is pretty well spec'd (Intel SSD + 2GB Memory), so graphical browsers and media players run pretty zippy.
You know I like my stuff minimal, right Rob? bigrazz
Nice screenshot, btw.

Blimey!!
The netbook seems to be in a rather metrosexual mood today.

The theme is actually quite nice... it's just the wallpaper I don't agree with.
Way too much yellowness.

I've been using this superflat, psuedo-see-through, blueprint-esque look for the past week.
Not fancy (unless you're into ultra-spartan minimalism), but it's pretty darn usable and allows me to get a lot of stuff done when I'm on the road with this netbook.

More minimalism.
Don't bother trying to make sense of it.
