o.o Would you be a major otaku then...? Back on topic...Have you ever found yourself reading a manga and tragedy strikes (and you're devastated) or things don't go to plan (and you're ready to kick someone)? <---just examples

My experience: Gantz ch 341. I love cute little Takeshi...

he either gets caught in that explosion, nishi saves him (i hope) or he possibly got transferred? When I read it, I was ready to cry as if I really knew him.

Any who, care to share your experiences??!

it's not a good idea to get attached to characters in gantz. they usually die. one of the reasons i stopped reading it. Back on topic, I don't usually get too attached to characters that it affects me in life. I've shed a tear a couple times (death note and code geass) but nothing beyond that.

No, I don't since they are fictional characters. There are some situations in manga which make me think about what I would have done in the character's place (mostly Seinen/Slice of life), is that considered as attachment to characters? But I've never cried over some fictional character's death not even when

Gandalf (yes, yes, he didn't really die) or Dumbledore died who were amazing characters imo. Not related to manga but oh well.

Hey, if it serves as a good plot twist, why not kill off the character? It's not like it has any impact on my life, it's just entertainment to me (reading manga/books, not killing hehe).

Erm, no.

I do remember some characters for a long time
after I am finished with the series if they are really well
thought up, but manga just does not really move me to
that extent, barely anything does anyway.

"Too" attached, no. I do get attached, just not to the point where I think it is unhealthy. It's not a good story unless I get attached to the characters.

When the manga is good and characters are realistic, I become very attached to them. Once I read a book in which the main character dies in the end, I was depressed for a week 🙂 I'm usually more attached to characters from books, but in manga too (like 7 Seeds, Fullmetal Alchemist).

Omg yes!! I'm very attached to the characters in 7 seeds too! If any characters were killed off, it hits me bad..really bad. All the characters are so 'human'..and considering the extreme circumstances they live in, if one character dies, it does effect the entire storyline.

Even the deaths of Team Winter members, their lives in the future could have been different if they were still alive. Especially Mitsuru and Fubuki..T__________T

Mayu doesn't deserve to die, she could have been an interesting character if she was in Team Summer A. She's got more potential than Nijiko!!

One piece probably counts. I'm very attached to the characters since this manga has a lot of sentimental value to me. But the character deaths don't have a strong emotional impact to me when compared to the deaths in 7 seeds.
