This week's poll is from Masae. Do you commonly read series that are not your target demographic? Specifically, it doesn't include any 18+ demographics, so don't complain about that.

You can discuss this among yourselves on our forum here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=28178

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Would you drop a manga if you didn't like the art?
Choices:
Yes! It must look good if I'm gonna read it - votes: 5115 (38.1%)
Nah, art doesn't matter too much - votes: 4849 (36.1%)
I never even start a series unless it looks good - votes: 3465 (25.8%)
There were 13429 total votes.
The poll ended: August 13th 2011

I maybe a male but it didn't really bother if it is wrong for me to read shoujo manga. I actually enjoy as much as i read shounen manga. I kinda picky about my genre though.

I never really check out what demographic a manga I'm reading caters to. As long as it's a nice read...

Seinen and josei are mainly targeted at more mature individuals, ie college students and young professionals. Some do have explicit content (which can range from nudity and sex to extremes such as borderline hentai), but quite a good amount is as clean as a whistle. So seinen and josei =/= 18+.

I don't really know what to pick; I think the choices are just too absolute.

  1. I am male, so no.

  2. I actually started manga by reading shoujo (I like romance), but now I tend to avoid them like the plague because I find them to be too unrealistic, especially in their depiction of males (who tend to be overbearing). I am open to reading josei, but I need to read more.

  3. My lists are dominated by shounen and seinen, but as I mentioned I am open to reading josei. And there are some shoujo titles which catch my attention (rare, but it does happen).

  4. I do have preferences, lol.

So yeah, abstaining on this one.

whoever JUST reads their demographic are complete idiots (coughcough thinking of my sister coughcough). Yeah it's not your norm, but if you don't even give it a chance you're missing out on a lot in life. It's like watching movies from just a single genre your whole life... things would stagnate very quickly.

It's the same for me except the exact opposite. I do have preferences, but most of my list are dominated with Shoujo and Josei. I love Seinen though although I haven't read enough. I've also read a fair amount of Shounen, though nowadays I only read Shounen if it includes the psychological genre.

That sums me up too (except I'm reading less shounen these days. Too much of it is generic crap).

not really a lot of josai/sennin are very targeted and almost unbearable to read if you arent in that targeted audience. to say someone is an idiot for not reading that is just ignorant.

i think the fourth answer "I read all sorts of demographics without preference" is covered by the first two and really skews the results of the poll
