Contest is evil, obviously. Atleast Mashima isn't beating around the bush with that. Some people might call that lazy writing. I call it being pragmatic. Especially when there's no point in hiding it or dragging it out longer than neccesary

I did not mind it though elfman is why too big for three months of training...roids anyone. It sets up the fact that Natsu and co are not the best in the competition as they just squeaked in though beating all the other guilds still shows they are powerful and it was rather humourous.

I would rather have Gajeel or Laxus then Elfman though. I hope they show up at the important part though, i.e. the final battle.
