;o Glad you bumped it.. I'll take a look at it when I get home tonight if I can..
Does it leave any files on a computer or could it be considered portable?
My only problem right now is I can't download your magi.dictionary file (sample) because it has an extension that's not normally used and it's on MF.. ._.''

I'm not sure what you mean by 'leaving files' but, if you mean like when you install Photoshop and it puts files in your Program_Files/Photoshop/etc, then it doesn't do that. It's a clean download of a small folder. Just delete the folder to remove everything. (Except the .dictionary files you made)
In the folder there is the .jar file (the executable), some documentation (if you care) and a resources folder. The resources folder is for the program and you shouldn't mess with them.
You should have the newest version of java installed (1.7). Run the executable (.jar) and use it to open the magi.dictionary file.
The extension is something I made so it isn't, umm, 'standard'.
Is there a problem with having it on MF? If so, have another site I could upload it to?
Also, I made an update today.
Feel free to pester me with questions.

Yes, that is what I meant, because besides installing in locations certain programs saves settings in the registry or in AppData..
I did notice that it doesn't save any of your settings though, such as resizing of windows etc. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, but I think it is until you get everything else you want into it first.
I'll pester you with questions or suggestions after I test it out fully. =) Or at least of what I can do with it. x]]
I'll get the updated version now.. As for a solution to the .dictionary file problem, I'm pretty sure if you just put it into a zip or rar it'd fix any problems.
P.S. Yes of course I care about the documentation! D:
P.P.S. This seems like a pretty interesting program. Hopefully I have the latest version of Java (My laptop recently died and I had to dig out my old computer which can't get online right now) but maybe I'll get a portable version of java to try it out instead..

I zipped up the Magi Dictionary
I'm going to be updating it soon, but it's a good first start.
I would like to do setting data like that, but yes, I'll get to that once the program has all the features I want. In the requirements document it lists some future enhancements.
Also, if you find bugs, it would be helpful to send me them at this address: dictionary.manager@hotmail.com
Have fun~ 🙂

Thanks, I'll test it out with the dictionary you provide.
I did encounter a problem but that might just be on my end because I'm not positive my Java is up to date. I'm updating it tonight (hopefully) and trying it out again.. If the problem persists I'll email you. =)

Alright. Thanks for trying it out. 🙂
Also, if anyone is a programmer, I added it on github. Source code doesn't have any comments right now because I don't have time. Hopefully by the end of the month I can add them.

I tried emailing you but it didn't send for some reason. :S I only tried out 1.01 and not 1.0 btw.. Here are my thoughts.. Nothing much really. =x As in my thoughts, I found the program to be pretty interesting, and of the things you plan to implement being able to export it (and perhaps import) it as a spread sheet seems the most promising.
Okay. After trying it out I found out why I couldn't seem to save before. After typing anything you have to click outside the box first before clicking save it seems, otherwise it doesn't register..
There's something minor that's not a big deal but it bugs me a little. If I resize the are for categories and then click edit it gets resized automatically. It's not bad I guess, but things like columns being resized, I prefer having a choice in whether or not it'll happen automatically.
I tested several languages (as I could find on my computer, but that's some what limited now) and it seemed to accept all of them which was good, although it alters weird fonts to symbols occasionally. It's not important really, but an interesting note.
After trying this tool out I think it should be useful for two groups mainly.
- Translators who can't natively read both languages (can only read one or the other) and learned a language later.
- Translators who come across terms which come up often (names, places, etc) which aren't common place.
It's like creating your own [LANGUAGE1] to [LANGUAGE2] dictionary which is more limited so you won't have to flip through a ton of pages just to find a term.. It would also help when there are several translators working on the same project keep consistent naming for terms, people, and places.
I think if you could some how keep font faces (a few common ones used for type setting) or a way to import or read font files it would be helpful.
Maybe a way to quickly copy text for those translators who type up a script and just send that into their group rather than typesetting.
The things you plan for the future seem to be very good also. As I don't do much translating anymore I can't think of anything to suggest, and I've not run into any major problems so I think it's good so far.
I look forward to seeing how you improve it.
P.S. Your link to github didn't seem to work. First it's missing a : and simply goes to https// rather than https:// and when I added that in I got a "page not found" message.

Thanks for your feedback. I just want to clarify:
-
When saving you have to click outside before clicking save or it doesn't go through.
-
If you resize the columns then type they will go back to default.
-
Alters fonts to symbols for diff languages
-
Keep track of font faces.
If you could expand on 4 that'd be appreciated. It's strictly a [Language1] to [Language2] dictionary, so I don't really know how fonts work into this at all.
Also, about 3, the program uses the default font pack on your computer. It has no 'font'. So if symbols show up, it's because of your computer (localization/language packs).

Sorry for the late reply, but I've been some what swamped with other things so I hadn't had a chance to reply. =x

Yes, that's exactly right. If you don't click outside the box you edited before clicking save, the last box you edited will not save.
-
Yes, this can be some what annoying for those who like having things look a certain way or if they read better when things are written in a single line rather than two lines or something.
-
Okay, I'll have to look into it then. o.o; Thanks.
-
I understand it's strictly a [Language 1] to [Language 2] dictionary, and as such font faces generally don't mean much (although italics to indicate what part of speech they are and such can be helpful)
But, I want you to consider the audience you're marketing this towards. People who translate and often typeset. If they could preserve font faces, it could help people who typeset keep consistency, especially if different people are working on different chapters.
As I said (or at least I hope I said) nothing I mentioned is especially important except perhaps #1. The first thing can be the most difficult to deal with because people are used to saving right away after finishing something and clicking outside the box may be a hard habit to get into. Everything else is just minor things I thought I would suggest or mention that I happened upon while translating (translating some code and instructions actually, so font faces weren't important to me at all).
Any how, I think your program is quite useful and I'm using it for quick references which is helpful. Thank you. =)
