cousin gave me a dvd of the first naruto season, then it all started from there
but of course before that i did watch pokemon and adult swim, not knowing it was anime

as for manga...i accidentally came across hentai on newgrounds...lol
but when i actually read real manga, was after watching naruto and bleach, so i looked up the manga

I started watching anime when I was about 8-9. Everyday when I got home from school I would flip on KidsWB and watch the wonderful episodes of Cardcaptor Sakura (w/ the enlgish voices however- which are horrible!) I also used to a HUGE fan of Pokemon! (I was even in love with Ash )

I think when I was 9-10 I began reading the Cardcaptor Sakura manga from the public library and that was really when I became a zealot about the whole genre of Asian art.

I am still not really an anime fan, preffering the manga/manhwa over the anime, since I can imagine things better that way. I think at the time I started reading the Cardcaptor Sakura manga was the time I found out that all the stuff was Japanese (after all, they do have explanations in the backs of the novels).

All I can say is that I am so happy that I found out about this and I have attempted to get my sister to read manga. However, most of my friends do read manga which is weird....

my cousin gave me the first season of naruto (anime) but when its finished m cousin gave me naruto manga season 2 and when naruto shippuuden came she gave me the anime and the books .....isee many animes -manga like

One day I was just totally bored and was just bluntly staring at TV, while changing channels I saw animated movie so I decided to watch it.At first I thought it's just not very interesting, because of the main character:some strange old lady, but I though to myself 'we'll see'.As it appeared later it was anime movie titled 'Howl`s Moving Castle' (btw the best movie I've ever seen)so I started to look for a new anime on the internet etc.I found 'Inuyasha' , started to watch it and later I read that it was based on the manga, so as you are already expecting I looked for manga... it was then when my adventure begun

And somewhere by the way it just happened that I'm here also & I'm very glad

p.s I watched some anime when I was a little kid: Sailormoon etc, but back then I just counted it as an ordinary cartoon (..yeah shame on me...)

Escaflowne, when I was like 10. I watched one episode, and that was it, I loved the art, the story line, and everything else. I was so addicted after wards. I didn't even knw where I could get any manga, and I only rediscovered it in high school cuz of my friends. Since then, I've been reading manga.

A looooong time ago when Akira,Vampire Hunter D & the Fist of the North Star movies first came to the US,my cousin brought them over and the rest is history.When I seen Kenshiro punch a man and his head exploding I noticed how different it was from my favorite cartoons like Thunder Cats & Ninja Tutrles.

Rented Mononoke Hime. back in middle school and was hooked. Manga came in a year or so later when I figured out you could find it online. At the time the local bookstores didn't have any.

I've been reading comics/manga before I even knew how to read. My Aunts and Uncle always had them around. I apparently used to make my own stories while reading them out loud.

Long time ago I saw some documentary show about an animation on TV. And there were some words about GitS movie, they said it's one of things which were preimage to Matrix...so I wanted to see it...and that what started it...XD

My brother talked about the Ranma 1/2 anime quite a bit, but ... I just thought "How bizarre & confusing" and wasn't much interested. My step-dad told me about the wide variety of "comics" in Japan and how everyone reads them, but again I just wasn't interested.

Then one day in the public library, waiting for my boys to decide which video to check out, a bright yellow book caught my eye. I recognized Ranma 1/2 as "that Japanese cartoon my brother likes so much" and on a whim, checked it out. We read it together, and all three of us were fascinated - and more than a little confused, since it was volume 2! After that we started borrowing videos from my brother, read the rest of the Ranma volumes the library had, and then I think I started buying them, and then reading other manga, and eventually discovered the world of scanlations, and the rest (as they say) is history~

So yeah, it's all my brother's fault.

Well I was first introduced to anime by my friend (who is really into it), but even then I never read any manga. I only started reading manga after I disliked the ending of the Gantz anime so much, so I started reading the manga when I heard it kept going. Since then I've read far more manga than anime.

Note: As I learned later on 2 of my favorite TV shows turned out to be anime (didnt even know what anime was when I first watched thme though) (escaflone (probably not spelt right) & Gundam Wing)

All of those were like OMG MIND BLOWINGLY AWESOME when i was a kid. and that's how i ended up a mindless anime addict.

I got addicted to anime when I was about 6. I watched Kids WB, when they use to air Cardcaptor Sakura and things like that. Then Toonami on Cartoon Network when I was near 10, introduced me into the Shounen genre.

My brother first introduced me into manga in the fourth grade when I was 9 years old. It was pretty amazing. One day my brother bought home Fruits Basket volume 4, and I asked if I could read it and he said sure. That's when I got hooked.

Yea...I got introduced to both at a pretty early age though...heh...

My friend had cable and I just happened to stop on Sci fi network. They were airing Galaxy Express 999. I stayed up to watch it. God that was long. It ran from about 10 pm to about 5 am. Before that I'd seen the anime on fox kids and kids wb but this was the turning point for me where anime went from just some funny looking cartoons from japan to a huge waste of money. My first manga was Kenshin. I saw lots of people talking about it on a forum and thats what got me to read it.
