Anime started by seeing Evangelion and Miyazaki's Porko Rosso, as well as most of Wings of Honneamise between the ages 10-12 (Porko Rosso may have been earlier, actually it all could have been) on SBS (one of the public television networks in my country and the one which shows a myriad of world cinema and television as well as running a subtitling service).
Then from there I moved into some more "family friendly" anime on the commercial stations, my first thought about pokemon being "Misty looks like Asuka, and Pikachu's attack looks like an N2 bomb" (my favourites of those sorts of series from that time being Digimon and Zoids (both before their reboots, then they went downhill although Zoids reboot wasn't as bad as digimons two crap reboots) as they still maintained serious themes and events in a children's anime)
As time went on I saw more on DVD SBS and foxtel but not that much (not as much in comparision to the 1-5 thousand films I've watched in the 2-3 years since becoming a serious film fan)
As for manga, late last year I was browsing IMDB and spotted a topic about the manga of Koroshiya Ichi (Ichi the Killer) I followed the link and found mangadownload.net and discovered the world of scanlation and manga getting myself started on Gantz, Salad Days and others (since that day in October 2007 I have read nearly 30,000 pages of Manga on the computer and around 400 (1 volume of crying freeman) on paper, incidentally around 10,000 of those pages were read during my final high school exams so it's amazing that I still scored relatively well lol)

One day I was just totally bored and was just bluntly staring at TV, while changing channels I saw animated movie so I decided to watch it.At first I thought it's just not very interesting, because of the main character:some strange old lady, but I though to myself 'we'll see'.As it appeared later it was anime movie titled 'Howl`s Moving Castle' (btw the best movie I've ever seen)so I started to look for a new anime on the internet etc.I found 'Inuyasha' , started to watch it and later I read that it was based on the manga, so as you are already expecting I looked for manga... it was then when my adventure begun
And somewhere by the way it just happened that I'm here also & I'm very glad
p.s I watched some anime when I was a little kid: Sailormoon etc, but back then I just counted it as an ordinary cartoon (..yeah shame on me...)

I was in my late 40s and living in Britain. I came home for Xmas one year and stayed with a friend for part of that time. He'd broken his hip (he had polio when young) and during his long recovery had gotten into Sailor Moon.
He had collected some anime VHS tapes (this was in the mid 90s, before DVDs really got going). He had 2 of the 3 tapes of Doomed Megalopolis, which I watched with complete facination. The colors, the story . . . it was all so amazing.
Later in the new year, after I returned to the UK, the BBC showed a short series of anime movies, including Akira. And that was that.
After I returned home, this same friend gave me, as an Xmas present, the first volume of Ranma 1/2 (theViz edition), which started my manga addiction.

When I was little (more or less 8 yrs old) I used to watch A little Princess, then I got hooked to Dragon Ball and then Ranma. I think these are pretty well known in the Philippines.
But I didn't know that there was such a thing such as manga.
While looking at a newstand(sometime after arriving in Italy) I saw a familiar figure on a book cover...It looked like Ranma...It was Ranma!!! I bought the manga even without understanding the language yet.

i got into manga about a year and a half ago (when i was 15). i realized that i never read manga so i went to the library and borrowed "Princess Prince" by Tomko Taniguchi. been reading manga ever since XD

I decided to watch Naruto when it first came out on Cartoon Network. By Episode 100 or so, I was so addicted that I tried finding more episodes online, which led me to the Japanese anime, which consequently lead me to the manga x). Then last year, I met my friend who collected manga. So she would bring me all her shojo mangas (and seeing how she had over 300 volumes, it took me a while to get through them all >.<) and eventually I got moar addicted. So then I looked for moar manga to read, and decided to watch/read Bleah cuz it was so popular and then after a while I just got real addicted to all manga shizzy.

when i was a kid i watched sailor moon and had no idea that it was anime til years later. i started to get into anime when i was 12 years old and i saw it on OnDemand and Cartoon Network. and then i searched the world of the internet and found that there are many shows that you can watch online.
i used to love anime before i found this site at about 14 years old and had no idea what manga was and realised that i liked it even more than anime.
now at 16 i don't watch anime any more, im a hard core manga fan.

when i was a child i watched Silver Fang and when i got a bit older Pokemon i saw a couple of episodes of, offcourse both were dubbed to my language so i had no idea there was something called anime or manga.
But when i started hanging out in LAN party's (before everyone had anything else then modems/ISDN) i suddenly watched a screen of an aquaintance that were running Kenshin, the episode where that broomhair dude was picking a fight with his whiplike sword, i watched a bit behind his back where he sat, he finished the episode and i was in suppense, then he was going to grab something to eat and i was so excited about what would happen next, then i asked and got the name of Rurouni Kenshin and he had a couple of episodes shared.
I downloaded em, but i got more interested in Kenshin, not anime in particular, only the Kenshin series and when i got home i started modem downloading from DC, then i got ADSL and downloaded in the end EVERYTHING i could find about kenshin.
Then i got the first chapters of Love Hina by chance (was in a comic i bought) and it was hillarious, downloaded and watched Love Hina.. and then i was hooked.
But i wowed to never buy or download manga cuz i didn't want to be a complete Otaku... but now i have Shounen JUMP's out my ass and a HDD filled with manga and manwha...
Im hooked...

I watched shows like Dragon Ball Z and Tenchi Muyo when I was younger... but I really have no idea how I started reading manga.
I do know that my first manga was either Death Note or Angel Sanctuary. I think I read them at the same time. And I started reading them because I was in 10th grade and had just dropped out for the second time, and needed something to pass the time.
