I'm a Death Note fan, but I had no idea that this was by the creators of Death Note. I just enjoy the manga, really. -shrug-

I only hope BM don't become the shit that DN was...

I only read Bakuman because it wasn't Death Note. I didn't like DN, I stopped reading it after about 10 chapters. Really wasn't my thing. I'm enjoying Bakuman, but it isn't anything special.

Well isn't that what writers do when they come out with a new series? They always have something that tells people that the new series is from the same writer/creator/director/producer that gave you "X".
But I think that Bakuman is pretty good. It's very realistic (Which some manga need to have IMO) and I personally think that it's funny how instead of trying to get into a fake manga magazine company, they have the main characters going for Weekly Shounen Jump like it's the Holy Grail of manga magazine companies. 🤣

Bakuman is overrated. You guys gave me such high expectations.
:-(
It's mediocre at best, I'd drop it for the story/characters alone, but since I have a soft spot for Takeshi's art, I don't care how messed up the story gets.

Many fans of Death Note's story are probably dissapointed with Bakuman. It's not as deep and no where near as cynical (and dark). Bakuman is good in its own accord; a nice slice of life shonen manga albeit a bit atypical.

I think it's pretty interesting. It's also quite inspiring and somewhat helpful for those who are interested to get into the manga industry.
Riding on DN's wave of success? I don't think so. I would've picked it up even if I didn't know it was by the same creators of Death Note :\

Actually, I didn't even know it was by the creators of Death Note until I was already on like, the fifth chapter and already in love with it. It's a really awesome manga on its own, though I absolutely loved Death Note as well.

Just wanted to point out that of the shounen weekley magazines, JUMP has the highest circulation of about 2.7 million as of 2007. So yeah, it is like the Holy Grail. Think about the mangas in that thing: Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, HunterxHunter...
As for the Death Note thing... I think there is a certain bias towards Bakuman because of Death Note. From what I've read of the posts here, a lot of people seem to expect a cynical, dark story like Death Note, while Bakuman is more of a quest to become a mangaka and the hardships that come with it.
About the love story... I think it makes it rather cute. After all, a pure story about wanting to be a mangaka is rather dry. And to tell the truth, I can't really see another incentive for Mashiro to work so hard to become a mangaka. And the whole thing with the uncle... It serves as a thing where Mashiro doesn't want the past to repeat itself.
For another thing, the whole "depth" of the story hasn't been established yet. I foreshadow a lot will happen between Niizuma (sp?) and the duo, especially with that thing where the weird genius wants to destroy a single manga he hates. And seeing what has happened, I'm curious to see how the story will develop.
So, those seeking "depth" in Bakuman, I'd suggest that you stick along for the ride, because perhaps you'll be surprised~ :3
Oh and about the art style... I didn't exactly analyze it and all, but I found it interesting how Ohba added this funny face that people made. It's rather... unlike his previous works. And I still love Ohba's fashion in the manga. So awesome~~~~

Bakuman will probably attract a different kind of fan base than Death note because
Death Note: Emo kid wants to purge the world of evil by writing names in his notebook.
Bakuman: Kid wants to write a manga so he can marry his girl. It's just too different
emo kid you mean light right?
if light was an emo he would have killed either himself or the world! well that's what i think an emo would do with a death note (or he would have made empty threats to people jk)
😁
hmm i should have written what i was going to say in that reply i did...oh well
anywho im a big DN fan...i may have read/watched the story too many times but hey! im sad like that...
with me i found out about bakuman because of death note. I dont know how why other people would back bakuman because they like death note it seems pointless to me...
people should like things for what they are and not like them becasue of pervois work that the manga artist does...but on the other hand i understand if people like the manga artist because of their style, way they tell the story etc.
i find bakuman very interesting and it looks like fun! i intend to read it to the end (of course that depends on how the story goes and if people keep putting it online)
MANGA FOREVER! WOOO!
🙄
claire here having some manga loving fun!
whatever that means....

Well, many people are going to start Bakuman due to that the author wrote Death Note. Maybe they're also going to expect a darker manga, but maybe they're not...but Bakuman is a good manga even if it doesn't feel like Death Note

Me neither. I didn't even know it was by Death Note's mangaka.
I like Bakuman. It's something that's original (at least to me) and fun. I don't know of many mangas that are about trying to make manga (but my lists are pretty narrow).
The girl Mashiro's interested in is kind of, to me, a little... ugly? I just don't like the way she's drawn. And the romance seems a little funky, but it's still a nice addition.

its not close to as good as death note was in my opinion but hey its by the same mangaka's so it might progress to become a pretty good manga
