preview?

I have no idea what this term means when it comes to translation so can someone explain what this means? Such as chapter 85 says there is preview and the actual chapter is a red link so I'm unsure if this means that the chapter is translated and is just not edited yet or if this means that what I see is only a portion of the actual chapter and there is more to be translated. Thank you.

From my experience with baka-tsuki, it usually means that the chapter is translated, but the translation can still have some degree of error As far as I've seen you can read the previews, but keep in mind that they might that they might have some in-precise translations and grammatical errors.
You can take Madan no Ou to Vanadis as an example the first 5 Volumes are previews, but I've read them all and they're ok.

They are machine translated (therefore lower quality), but the earlier chapters (not volume 18-19) previews have been proofread a lot and are good enough.

Thanks 🙂 ill be sure to take what i read in those chapters with a grain of salt. (meaning: i wont take them word for word and make my conclusions based on what i believe the author actually meant rather than take everything i read literally.)

i guess you are refering to volume 9 and 11 previews, you can read those without problems, those were translated and edited by me and the others in baka tsuki team. They were also proofread, so there are no problems. The thing is that by the rules, machine translated chapters must be under PREVIEW.
As for volume 18 and 19 previews, i dont recommend them, they are machine translated but they have not been edited or proofreaded. So the degree of error is huge, most of the time while you try to read it you will not understand it.

yes i was also referring to volume 9 and 11's previews and thank you for responding 🙂
i plan to read as much as i can but ill most likely stop at chapter 171 until i know that i'm reading the story for what it actually is. (that and as far as i can tell 173-175 are untranslated at this time.)

Well from my experience if the Volume has a "Full Text" link then the preview chapters can be read fairly safely.

The first half of volume 18 is decent, then it turns crappy.
172-175 are about the same quality, readable but definitely still needs a little translation check.
