Hanashi just put out their last release and announce that they are closing due to no translator anymore.
A just ruler amongst tyrants
But not like I read anything from them.
I guess a translator is and will be the hardest to find/keep up with.

Why, because two groups out of at least 100 active close down?

I second this. They each had 10 and 15 series (though hanashi had over 100 releases so I suppose they were quite established) each and none of the current ones were very big I believe. Shion no Ou was the only I was following and they abandoned that one long ago. Disappointing for those who do follow any of their series but it's hardly that big of a deal compared to say when Shoujo Magic (hundreds of series) or Toriyama's World (HnG Bleach FMA HxH Naruto years before speed scanners) shut down.

A group is still a group. I'm always sad, regardless of the size, when they shut down.

Yes, I did say that it was disappointing, but I was pointing out that 2 small groups closing wasn't really a sign of scanlation dying out like a previous poster suggested.

Yes, I know that. But my comment was more directed at HumanoidInterface instead.

Oh well then, sorry and I retract any snarkiness I may have conveyed.
I do feel sad when any group even fringe ones like hentai groups (which aren't my cup of tea) collapses because other people usually do follow their releases and I can sympathize with that. I especially dislike it when people say good riddance because they don't read that genre (which happens a lot when yaoi groups disband).

this happens often, then?
by "this" i don't mean the closing down of scanlation groups.
i mean announcing it on frontpage of mangaupdates.

And one of the only 3 groups I don't consider trash closes down... Sad day for me. 🙁

the news certainly not only consist of (mostly rather unimportant) polls after polls...
