I hated OneManga anyway so I don't reallly care. Why would anyone want to read low quality scans online anyway? :/

I saw this message this morning as I was going about my daily routine of checking for updates on manga I'm reading. This is a sad, sad day - comparable to how I felt when Nagareboshi Scans closed down. But to be honest, I don't really mind having to buy my manga, it makes me feel good about giving back to the author. The problem is - half of what I read isn't liscened, and will (99.9% of the time) never will be. I would love to have some really good manga on my bookshelf, but I'm not very far (if at all) in learning Japanese, and probably will never become sufficient enough to read raw manga.

): Rest in peace One Manga. I'm putting you in my Facebook status and will gladly explained to everyone what being obsessed with manga is truly about.
Bishes, I will miss you.

I'm grateful for Mangafox hanging on - thank you. (:

Very unfortunate. It seems that I will have to start storing manga in my PC in stead of reading online from now on. Or does anyone have suggestion for alternative reading sites?

Well, at least MangaUpdates is still here.... 😐

For people who have lots of series to follow, isn't MU a great site to keep you up to date?(better than any sites I have known so far)

I came to this website just messing around one day, and I noticed that you could look up information on loads of manga here. I thought to myself, "Eh, pretty cool." So I did that for a couple months, until I started to notice that you could actually build lists stating what mangas you've completed, what you've left to accomplish reading, & where you are currently. Needless to say, I was ecstatic. I then built myself an actual account and am now a happy user. 😁

This makes me REALLY depressed. l've been using One Manga for over 7 years now. I read my first manga using their online reader. Online reading will never be the same.

Mangafox gives you viruses,I agree... -_- I've had to format my computer and reprogram it 4 times already and always it was when I was on MF. But its the only place you can read manga now, and i'm afraid it will go down soon too so we have to hurry in reading as much as we can.

what worries me most is the whole lolicon scalation thing that started in the last years. if theres anything that can come like a rain of fire on us is that

If you don't keep track of news, that bill got roflstomped to oblivion.

Also, those who think your not safe downloading or using torrents, go ask the RIAA how successful they've been with stopping it. And they've been working on it for like 8 years and gotten no where.

Those of you complaining about OM, yes it sucks. now quickly write down your favorite series that are being released, find a group that scanlates it and then go to that groups website/IRC. at least then you don't have to worry about moving around for a while.

As for me, I prefer online manga reading sites since I use an iPhone for reading manga. It so happens that OneManga was one of the few manga sites that has a mobile version to be viewed on the phone's browser.

On the other hand, most of the scanlation teams package their works on .rar or .zip, making it harder to access and read on iPhone. One might consider to download an application specializing in decompressing and viewing these files first.

I'm not sure if you can download from MF, it's a reader site. But if you use MF you need Mozilla/Firefox web browser. Just a word of caution if you have Vista, and Zone alarm you will have problems with Firefox. I do...

And its sucks about OM because it was my first manga reader website I went to... 🙁

With online readers closing here and there, I'll just have to make the most out of it and read as much as possible. D:
Bye bye, OneManga. TT-TT

first mangatoshokan now onemanga..

..the publishers are too naive if they think removing scanned manga online will improve their sales. This will only result in the same thing it has on other entertainment platforms. People will find ways even when it becomes illegal. Look at music and songs for an example. Plenty of us older internet users once found the music-download program "Napster" thus began we began to download instead of buying music. What did the music companies do? they rallied together and eventually got napster to shut down. Since then it has just exploaded. Kazaa/morpheus, "torrent-ing" even when piratebay was massively sued the people retrieving items online haven't decreased whatsoever. Instead of wasting effort trying to shut down manga online, the publishers should adapt. Do like the Swedes, copy the service and provide a legal alternative to streaming music online (thinking of the service "Spotify" now). People demand instant access to music, people will demand instant access to manga. Don't stop us from reading manga online, offer us an alternative. An easy accessible alternative that fairly compensates publishers, artists and those working with them is the only way to go. Publishers, learn from our history.

Gah. Oh well. I'll live, but I'll miss it, seeing as though onemanga was the site that introduced me to manga.

Dang, yeah illegal stuff is wrong in that manga-ka at the core were being hurt but with alternatives like manga being released in English by companies, now we have to worry about censored stuff being the only option both physically and digitally. I hope Open Manga succeeds and I guess we all really have to learn Japanese to get stuff authentic not chopped up.

Onemanga is a terrible site for viewing manga, there are so many better ones out there. So it's not really a loss. The publishers are happy because they manage to send a big message to the world by taking the site down.

I can't really feel sympathy for the site though. As a scanlator myself,I calculated that every release I make can enough views for about $10-20 in ad revenue on one popular site alone.None of which go to me or the publishers.Of course I deserve none of it but considering that Onemanga gets millions of views a month, they're practically millionaires by now. It's just mad that all that money never gets to the authors or publishers.
