Which male yaoi artists are gay? I think KUJOU Aoi might be... 🙄

IDK, just wondering (I'll add more, I just don't have the time)

Just because a BL mangaka is male doesn't necessarily mean he's gay. It could just be an interest, or a career he pursued. Most BL mangaka are very quiet about their personal lives even if they're straight, married and live a 'normal' life by Japanese standards, so it's hard to tell. Some of them don't even want you to know their sex, much less their sexuality.

However, if you really want to read male/male works by gay artists there is always bara. It's a genre written specifically by gay men (for the most part--sometimes women write bara-esque works, referred to as gachimuchi) for gay men.

I never meant that. Yeah, I think TAKATSUKI Noboru isn't gay. And I don't find SAKURA Haiji to be gay either, or KOUSAKA Tohru.

That doesn't mean women who write GL/yuri are lesbians either, it was just a thought.

Yes, I am aware of gei-comi/ bara works. I'm not a fan of it. I dislike hairy men. bleh

American gay comics aren't my tastes either. But, let me rephrase, I created this topic so it I... I don't know, just forget it. (LOL) I created this when I was on a coffee high. Please excuse. 🤣

The thing with mangaka is that so many seem to have managed to transcend gender and sexuality, so it's difficult to pin an orientation on them.

The only one I can think of is the guy who did the shounen-ai-ish Hetalia. He's a self-proclaimed schoolboy fetishist, which is probably about at close to declaring his sexuality as he'll ever get.

The only openly gay mangaka I know of is YAMAZAKI Toru, and his works are decidedly not yaoi.

I know, Toru Yamazaki-san is a great artist BTW.
