Can updating the manga's picture to the most recent volume not be a thing?

I know this might be a weird thing to suggest, but I can't help but want to suggest it anyway. I do hope there are others who know how I feel and can maybe agree on my suggestion.
There have been so many times where a manga that either I wanted to read, or have been reading, got it's picture updated to the most recent volume. While that sometimes might not matter, but sometimes it really does spoil some things regarding the story, and there isn't much you can do to avoid it. Unlike tags, you can't really avoid looking at the picture the manga has, so if that picture has spoilers for something, you almost really can't avoid it.
So my suggestion would be...can we stop updating the manga's picture past the first volume? In theory, that would mean less work and also less possible spoilers for the people, which is a win in both sides I would think.
Sorry if this is a stupid thing to suggest, it just has bothered me for a while😔

I agree. Another point to add on to what you've written is that the first volume's cover is typically the most recognisable.

This definitely makes sense for manga. Spoilers are the worst.

i completely agree ! it can definitely spoil many things like a character surviving until the most recent volume in a death battle / war manga for exemple ..

I agree! I had that happen to me where I thought a character died, but then saw they were there in the middle of the new volume cover.
It could also spoil things for romance manga too. It could really spoil who ends up with who when the manga itself is trying not to make it obvious.

Problem is that users change the covers, not the staff. Best the staff can do is add guidelines.

This, or moderate cover edits.
By the way, I totally agree with OP and Saltylettuce.

I wonder if the previous covers are still saved somewhere. Maybe it would be possible to add a setting which would let users specify that only the first image uploaded for a series is to be displayed (ofc unless it was moderated for breaking rules). Or maybe an option to hide covers until the series is moved to the complete list.

I don't know if this was recently added, but the page for uploading an image includes the text, in bold red, "Also, please do not put up covers which spoil the series!".
I don't know if that's enough, since people frequently don't spend time reading guidelines, no matter how obvious. As long as users are free to change the image, it's not possible to prevent image spoilers, only warn against and hope the user reads it and understands.

Agreed, This majorly spoils plenty of romance series. Especially when the cover has a wedding and so not only spoils who ends up together but spoils a major event and when to expect it.

Yeah, can they maybe make it like we could scroll around the cover. Like these page here ;

There we could see the cover for different volume of said series. 😁

I'm not sure how many people have read the rules when updating a cover (or how many have updated a cover), but covers that spoil the story after the first volume basically aren't allowed, and since new characters and stuff are often on newer covers, they also end up against the rules quite regularly if they aren't the first volume.
To be clear, it's not against the rules if the new cover doesn't spoil anything past the first volume.
I'm a jack of all trades but master of none. Too many jars and not enough hands.
