Um, hey everyone. This is my first thread here and I'm hoping I' making it in the right spot. This is the place to talk about shojo and this is a question about a shojo. So...

Anyway, I'm used to not really liking the main characters in manga I read. With the exception of Vash from Trigun and Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho, every anime/manga I've followed has a pretty stale main character. Or maybe it's just that the side characters are more dynamic somehow.

And that brings me to the question. I have heard very god things about GA and had it recommended to me. But before I give it a try, I'd like to know what people think.
is this Mikan a decent main character? The comments on the actual page for the series don't seem too flattering with people calling her a complete stereotype and even a rip-off.

Mikan's character is stereotypical in that she's your average naive, caring girl who tries to make everyone happy. There isn't a lot of complex character developments in the story , but once you get use to Mikan's silly smile, her character becomes the light in the darkness filled school.

It's up to you to decide whether you like the character, but I personally maintain a favorable opinion on Mikan's personality.

And personally, I think Mikan's character is pretty tolerable~ Chineserider sums it up pretty much and I can't imagine her any other way. (: She drives the story after all.
