Discuss the awesomeness of funk. P-Funk, Earth,Wind and Fire, War, Sly and the Family Stone, Zapp and Roger, Chaka Kahn, Rick James and the like. We can also discuss teh righteous bass players of the world that win at life, like Victor Wooten.

Does anyone else feel the funk?

My favs would be Funkadelic and then Bootsy solo stuff. I like Sly and the Family Stone but they are no where near as good as P-Funk. The rest you mentioned can just funk off...

Dunno if it's your type of funk.... but I've got some old records from Kool and the Gang, Stevie W, Dazz Band.... and some George Benson (he explored some funk stuff)

I like a lot of British Jazz-Funk (Morrissey, Shakatak...etc) but I'm not sure if it's the funk you're talkin about.

Most of the old funk I listen to is from the Disco/Electronic genre (Crown Heights Affair, Afrika Bambaataa...etc).... New stuff is mostly club material, which I know you dislike, so I'll say no more.

Also a big follower of Afrobeat music.

From those you mentioned, I love EW&F (remixed some of their stuff), Zapp and Chaka.

P.S.... my motocross bike sounds real 'funky' when the jetting's all messed up. 😀

How can you say Bambaataa is disco/electronica? That's like saying that Cold Crush is disco...

Anyway, I've grown up with funk music my whole life, especially being from California. Dazz Band is awesome, too. Curtis Mayfield is amazing (and underrated as a guitar player). George Benson is probably one of the best guitar players in the last 30 years.

I'm admittedly an electronica/club n00b, but I think I have a misconception of what electronica is... because I don't classify remixes and sampling of old material to be electronica, nor do I think that DJ's aren't musicians. I know several pro/aspiring DJ's and it's an art (I wanted to get 2 turntables and a mic before I realized that a respectable setup these days runs way more than a giggable Guitar setup), but I don't think of DJ's as the proprietors of electronica music. I could be wrong, though.

I love funk because it reminds me of old family reunions, quincineras, weddings, and parties.

Oh man.... now I've got the urge to watch Super Fly again.

Second that.

They aren't.... that's why I always group DJ&Producer together in my posts. Most serious DJ eventually remix and then produce (myself included).... except the kids who get into it to score chicks (they never go far coz they don't feel/love the music)

I actually misplaced Bambaataa... but they still started out as a DJ community... so calling them disco ain't entirely incorrect.... they played in clubs.

I also wanna take this chance to apologize if I seemed like an ass in a previous post.... I can be a bit anal when it comes to defending my past-profession.... probably because we've taken a lot of stick from various angles.

Nice to know you at least grew up with funk in the family.... All I grew up with was abuse.... 😀 ..... and some 'funky' smells.... but thats a whole story by itself.

and I wasn't kiddin about my MX bike sounding funky.... u should hear it.... like Shaka Zulu with some added snare, I tell u.

Those Family reunions were the jump off.

Kenny Burke's - Keep rising to the top
SOS Band- Take your time
McFadden & Whitehead - Ain't No Stopping Us Now
Cheryl Lynn - Got To Be Real
Brothers Johnson - I'll Be Good To You
Barry White - Let The Music Play
Boz Scaggs - Lowdown
Curtis Mayfield - Move on up

Just some of the songs I know verse for verse cause of those family reunions.

Good times, Good times

Exactly. Though I do know all of Atomic Dog and Computer Love by heart. Zapp and Roger ftw.
