I have never heard of this happening. Ok once. But is it really common? Homo incest is wincest so all's good.

yeah, the first time i saw this in a manga i was like WTF. but it makes sense as far as the legalities (being able to inherit your partner's wealth after his death, being able to visit him in the hospital, etc). i just wonder how often it actually happens in Japan. and how people react to it when it does happen.

but i also had a WTF moment when reading a manga where a rich older man without family would adopt a child to raise to be his heir. the purpose is for the child to one day take over the guy's wealth and company. i just felt like it isn't really necessary. so adoption in Japan just seems really weird to me.

actually I'm from korea, and the adoption to secure a heir was the most common norm in ancient times (more precisely to secure a male heir to continue the family line) and often adopted was not a child, but an adult who is closly related to the family. (like a cousin for example)

In fact, my great-grandfather was adopted in such manner. my dad showed me.

I don't think it's practiced commonly now though. mostly because of gender equality and people not being so heritage-obsessed as before. Although for more traditional or rich household. I can imagine it happens a lot (like in Yugioh)

When I first heard of adopting your lover, it didn't seem strange to me. I felt like it made perfect sense since that's they only way of be officially related without married, or am I the only one who thinks it's normal? It's hardly incest, just a piece of paper.
