what i got from the beginning of the series was that the grand line was the big huge scary place that was really dangerous, where no one should dare tread but from what i'm getting from the series now isn't so bad i mean it could be scary with all the huge bounties, but other than that burning islands and bad weather it doesn't seem all that bad.

so what about the 3 monsters they saw soon after they entered, the gaint goldfish, the Gaint sea monkeys,etc... maybe to the Strawhats its no problem but would regular crews be the same
No No No... Grand Line isn't scary.

Is the East Blue not considered the weakest of the 4 seas. Perhaps all the early "fire and brimstone" conversations were because the early chapters took place in the East Blue were everyone was weaker than in the rest of the world so it just seemed more monstrous to those in the East Blue.
Also, you can't discount the fact that Luffy and Zoro have proved time and again they are just stupidly, ridiculously strong compared to 99% everyone else in the One Piece world. The Grand Line may have appeared so dangerous because the tales were told by people so much weaker than the Straw Hat crew.
Let's not also forget that the Grand Line is bordered on either side by the Calm Belt and you need Log Pose's to navigate and it makes the Grand Line almost impossible to escape from furthering the tales of woe attached to the Grand Line stories.

I think that you also forget that the Strawhat's have one of the greatest navigator on their crew. Even Vivi claimed that Nami has skill's greater than any other navigator that she has seen. It's the Navigator's job to keep the crew safe on the ocean. Did you not watch One Piece Strong World?

Grand Line, or the first part at least is...
called a "Paradise", by people who go to the New World .
It was in recent chapters 🙂

iirc in one of the latest chapters it was said, that the grand line is kinda divided in two: first half isn't that bad and second is like stalingrad compared to your walk in disneyland
ch 594, last page (sleepyfans translation): all men of valor who set foot in the new world have this to say about the first half of the grand line "that ocean was paradise". i think there was something before ch 594 but i can't find a source that wasn't dicked by the latest anti scanlation campaigns

I said that above, and you just wrote a spoiler for anime watchers.

Yeah, it doesn't seem all that frightening through the eyes of the Straw-hat pirates, but you have to take into account how monstrously strong most of the people on that crew is. For comparison, think of the Rumbar Pirates (Brook's crew when he was alive). They weren't prepared for the horrors the Grand Line can inflict on the average pirate, and they were annihilated.
