From a quick search just now, there are hundreds of shoujo smut manga but zero shounen smut manga listed. My first reaction to this was to wonder, maybe there's a distinction between smut for shoujo and smut for josei, but not between smut for shounen and smut for seinen?

My idea, when I think of what seinen smut and josei smut is, would be to think that in each case it's usually a fairly believable (not necessary at all common, but believable) sexual relationship that develops, but it's smut because of the way that it's characterized. When I think shoujo smut, on the other hand, I think of, for instance, the stereotypical plot where the young girl meets a mysterious and sexually / romantically aggressive bishounen who sweeps her off her feet but she doesn't know if he loves her or her body or what she should feel, etc. In other words, smut that's less realistic than the more adult version, which takes place in a stimulating fantasy-like situation. If I extend that situation to shounen, then maybe a typical shounen smut plot which would be one which expands on ecchi stereotypes like you see in school life manga: there would be more full-on contact.

So why haven't I seen that? Am I not looking correctly? I think it's possible that shounen ecchi is at the level where much of it as effectively as provocative as shoujo smut. I mean, what is shoujo ecchi supposed to be? (I ran a search and found a few stories listed under both those genres, but they didn't follow any pattern and failed to provide me with a coherent picture of what the genre would mean.) I haven't taken a class in gender studies or anything, but I've heard a description that there's a psychology present where men devalue women after sex, could that be why shounen's girls are more "hard to get" and so situations where smut would be a relevant description aren't desirable for that demographic?

I read a lot of manga but I'm new to it, so I may have the wrong idea about a lot of things. I'd really like to understood what the truth of this situation is, in any case.

In my opinion:

Smut = The mangaka is a female woman, also, smut is romantic ecchi and not as funny.

Ecchi = The mangaka is a male man, also, ecchi is funny smut almost to hentai xD [ALMOST, they don't do it and stuff].

Well, hentai is something that deals with the graphic content and close views of "doings" so I wouldn't still stack them together when ecchi is more like playing with perversion. 🙂
