I noticed that even though the uke character almost always seems to be the replacement of the females point of view in shojo manga (usually most reluctant for sex, most embarrassed, gets female position in sex... ect) I, a female, find the cute uke the character the one that I like the most. I realized that this is almost like liking females. But then on the other spectrum I also like straight manga where it has a femedom feel (the girl is older. taller, or calmer than the boy) so perhaps this can explain that phenomenon. anyone else ever think about this, and why do you like the seme or uke most?

I guess the uke?? I normally never have a favorite, I like them both the same... but I think I might like the uke better too?? Besides the fact that it's through their point of view and we get to understand their emotions better, uke's are normally just really cute and adorable >_<

But I never find myself thinking that it's like liking females... even though uke's are more feminine, they don't totally act like girls (most of the time), which makes me feel better.

I like both if they are BOTH cool. But I usually like the seme more. Mainly cos' I like the one that takes the lead, same for shoujo.

Seme. It's just so much more interesting for me! :3

The seme of course! He's what makes it interesting! You can't have a good yaoi without a good seme. Two uke don't make a seme.

I personally can't really answer that. I relate to the uke, but that means I want seme. The uke must be appealing enough that I can support them -and desire to relate to them- but the seme must try to win my heart over.

I tend to identify more with the seme, for some reason, but the same thing goes for "straight" manga - I tend to identify with whoever takes the, um, reins? Not necessarily in a sexual fashion, just. The person who is quieter, stronger and steadier. For example, even in shoujo manga, I mostly end up identifying with the male love interests, unless the girl is calmer and more thoughtful/mature.

I can never bring myself to identify with genki, cheerful or weepy characters - and that rules out most shoujo heroines and most yaoi ukes. 😀

I identify with the uke. But then again I am a gay woman who bottoms in my relationships wo it makes sense. But well; I also find the uke to be much hotter than the seme most of the time.

I wouldn't have thought I had a preference, but then I realised that I'm always using the different 'Seme' tags to find new manga, more than any others.

Also, I think I'm more likely to stop reading if the seme is annoying, and I can handle irritating ukes. So I guess that's pretty definite then 🙂

That's pretty much my only problem with yaoi. And it's big enough to keep me from yaoi altogether. The whole seme/uke dynamic is pointless. The relationship is unbalanced and more often than not the uke is hyper-feminized which defeats the purpose of being a male character.

it's hard to say that i read for one or the other, since i don't feel like i relate to either of the cliched versions of a uke or a seme. i don't really like the the stereotypical seme who is overbearing, possessive and forceful or the uke who is feminine, reluctant, and adorable.

what i do really like, and i guess identify with, is a strong uke who isn't shy. but i think what matters most is how the uke and seme work as couple.

I come for a non-girly uke. I'm always looking and sometimes im put off when the front cover looks like he could very well be a girl... 🙁 BUT sometimes it is cute 😀 And i wish there were more couples who switched positions 😃
