Question about project choice

If I were to do a project that another group is already doing, but hasen't released for 5 month, is that ok?
due to certain reasons, which I won't discuss, I will not disclose the name of the manga.

if it better serves the community
yes.
its your choice to make... it just makes others angry.
for happiness to come, another one must be in pain.
i just made that up.. WOHOO
dont feel guilty. its okay, either way you want..

I don't think there is any form of rule against taking over what others are working on.
Just look at the number of groups doing naruto or bleach...
It just is plain stupid (IMO).
But every body is free to do what they want with their free time. On the other hand, if you are thinking about what would be best for the community... well that's different. You could always ask the group directly why have they stalled that project. Propose to take it over or a joint. Discuss it with them I mean.
And if no common grounds are found nothing is going to stop you from releasing anyway. And if they don't like it. Who cares? probably not you.

I was just about to propose exactly what stealth just did. Offer a joint or asking to take the project over would be a good thing to do. If they don't agree, then it's really up to you with what you want to do.

Stealth excelent response. Yeah always nice to ask first. Just dont straight up ask why they've been lagging though. "I'm interested in doing one of your mangas and I've noticed that it hasnt been done in quiet a few months. I mean no disrespect but I just wanted to check it's status/get more info before we officially decide to pick it up. Or maybe possible we can work together on it." well you can fix that up. or maybe if theyre real coo maybe they can just toss you the raws or any scripts they have. doubt that though. and yeah groups dont really like working together on stuff 😔
btw i really like that you came and asked for our opinions before doing anything. gives Lemon Inc some props
good luck with that project 🙂
why back in the day we didn't 'download', we had to swim to japan if we wanted fresh anime and that was only if...

so from all the replies, I'm thinking that nobody thinks that it's wrong to do that. Then I will go ahead with it.
I just want to check to see if Mangaupdates have a problem or not. It seems B-U doesn't so it's all good.

yeah officially we don't care. we are not a police force or choose which releases to approve or deny. we do however deny them if they're stolen. stolen in the sense that the scans were stolen from another group or the trans were used without permission. honor among thieves and all that << >> 😉
although i think we all (mods/admins) kind of agree on asking the group and seeing how it goes and not stealing projects from other groups. basically what was stated previosly in the topic.
