Hi everyone. This is my first post!

I was wondering about release dates for mangas being sold in bookstores/comic stores. I was waiting for Tail of the Moon, Volume 15, and read that the release date was February 03, 2009 both on Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com However, on mangafox.com, someone posted that they bought the last volume (15) of the series at the bookstore. As soon as I read that, I looked up on Barnesnoble.com for the store release, and my bookstore had it!

I ran to the store, and couldn't find it on the shelf, so I asked a salesperson for help. He said they got it in the store on January 29th, and it was probably in the back. Thankfully, he found it. I've been waiting for 2 weeks for the series final volume!

My question is, how can we find out when a manga is released at a bookstore or comic store? I am assuming the February 3rd date is for online release or something. I tried looking on Tokyopop, but couldn't find a release date. I was wondering what other people do when they are waiting for the next volume of their mangas.

yeah tokyopop really do suck when it comes to release dates so just ignore them and look on amazon cause they always seem to know the manga better than tokyopop
It depends how popular the manga is but to my knowledge they dont get them in as fast as the release date. all the bookstores near me are really slow and im like 3 volumes ahead of them most of the time.
I normally just buy them amazon when they out...sure it takes a week to get here but its cheaper and they actually have what i want

Quote from Sijy

It's happened to me several times, most recent is I pre-ordered Fairy Tail 5 from Buy.com and I received it in the mail over a week before streetdate. Most of the time with pre-orders I'll recieve it early or on the release date, meaning the warehouse will have it before then. This shouldn't be surprising, since the book companies have a ton of books to print and ship and they probably ship to some stores faster than others just by geography, plus online stores don't have to then ship it out to their individual stores.

But even for stores, most receive them on the release date, so if you pre-order in stores they have it in. Or earlier. I ppicked up Battle Royale V3 (big) about a week early in Borders while just browsing(luckily I had a 40% off coupon at the time!). So it happens that stuff is released early and pushed to the floor so that it has fast throughput.

So we'll see March 17th date, since that's a huge release day for VIZ and I have several books preordered that are released that day.

p.s. Buy.com has comparable prices to amazon after taxes(i.e. the books are less, but after tax they are about the same as amazon) only drawback is not everything from Buy.com is free shipping.

same thing happened with black lagoon vol. 4. its supposed to be released next tuesday (the 10th) ani i got it yesterday

I've seen some bookstores who happen to receive it from the publisher around a week in advance. My Borders has been known to do that. I generally check online and see if the website says my store is likely to have it. If it says they are, then I go look for it. Otherwise, I don't. Fortunately, their website is fairly up to date and tied in with the store inventory pretty well.

I pre-ordered Ouran S1P2 from RightStuf.com and it came 2 weeks early. Release date was 1/06/09 and I got it before Christmas.
