Not sure this is the right section, but...
I've been wondering for a while what's the difference between Manga Updates and Baka Updates, and what their relation? I've never actually had the chance to see BU as it's completely closed now, and I've started reading manga updates only recently.
I'm wondering what these two sites have share and why was one maintained and the other one closed.

Baka-Updates was the first website which revolved around fansub releases. It was started in 2002. MangaUpdates started up in 2004 as a companion site about manga. So, it started off as a spin off but eventually BU shut down, and here we are. They were generally run by the same people, but all of the original founders have moved on.

Very interesting article. I've visited this site just about every day since around 2010. There's nothing to match it that I know of.
