I definitely fell in love with this manga today. The plot is great and the artwork is beautiful. I was wondering if there was more like it?
The manga is called Gangsta.. If you haven't read it yet, I high suggest you read it!! The female character is great! It's rare for me to root for the female lead but she's so likeable.

I enjoy this manga because I like the whole idea of gangs/(ex)prostitution/some romance (wish there were more)/everyone has their dark past/antiheroes ..etc.

Hey! I was just browsing arund for a new manga to read! I don't normally read this kind of genre, so it will be the first for me but the artwork does look great! I'll give it a try! thank you for this recommendation!

Me neither!! I usually read shoujo genres! But I was hooked on this. I'm so happy I found it It's definitely different than the mangas I often go for. I hope you enjoy it ^_^

Death Edge is also good choice i guess. though it's not about gangster and more in supernatural genre.

Not as intense, but you should watch Black Lagoon. I prefer the anime over the manga for this one.

Gangsta is good and the two leads are awesome but i have noticed signs of slipping lately and my rating dropped to a 7/10. The cast exploded way too fast at once and the characterizations and motivations are thus a bit unclear. The art is of course amazing and i like it that actions like killing actually have consequences. The similar Black Lagoon(especially the ova part is better in the anime), Gunslinger Girl and Shi ga Futari o Wakatsu Made are similar and more rounded overall. The genre fiction Gantz(a bit devisive), Toukyou Kushu and the classic Hellsing could be for you too.
What do you see in the leading lady ? Alex is just the typical "whore with a heart full gold".
She has the usual past of abuse and turns out to have random angelic quality (like singing). She does not fit in the world and i don´t see her point in the narrative besides looking nice in the background, to ask questions for the reader and behaves weirdly. She is shy around the leads but just randomly blows a dude in a back alley way after being rescued from per pimp(do i remember this part right ?). I couldn´t characterize her if i tried.
Just a few random thought: Terra Formars (nice Sci-Fic nonsense 7,5/10) has a lot surprisingly capable female characters for an action only series and Berserk has prostitutes who have clear characterization. Azumi has the best female seinen lead ever.
We are getting a anime adaptation of Gangsta and I may watch it. You just motivated me to write a review out of this excessive comment. Stick to the genre. Seinen is truth but demographics are nonsense at times.

Just checked this manga out and it really reminded me of Dogs - Bullets & Carnage which I haven't read in a long while but I think it had the similar themes of gangs, eyepatches and cool art hehe
