Favorite Ancient Weapon of War!
I love projectile weapons like bows. Swords and katanas and the the like have been over-glorified, I feel. Just one good shot and an arow can pierce through armour. I mean, they are just kewl.
A bit off topic, but just to note that I am a school rifler so I may be more attracted to flying weapons than some 😀

My favorite would be the one that started it all, the stick.
It all started when one caveman wouldn't give up his delicious mammoth meat to someone else.
So he clubbed him over the head and stole it. True story.

Then you have surrendered to the Devil
And must surely perish. - J.W. von Goethe

And i repeat :IT IS the original that started all

i really like arrows and bows..Rocket arrows are cool, originally used by the Chinese
Just one step away from this really
Nice, but that picture was actually an improvement to the original rocket system made by the Korean. By in the days, Japan invaded Korea with 40,000 soldiers, and Korea won with only 3000 soldiers and 40 rocket cart systems. The one invented by china Originally did not tilt 45 degree. The Korean made the 45 degree tilt to maximize distance traveled.
It's called a Hwacha .

you are not pulling any strings 😮
It's the concept of shooting multiple rockets into the sky at some tilt that inspired the modern day weapon of multi rocket launcher. Basically the modern version just got better range, firepower, functionality, but still based on the original.

The part where the fire couldn't be put out probably was an exaggeration, the ancients didn't have the capability to make Napalm. As to what the greek fire weapon actually is....compared to a a flame thrower. IF you define flame thrower as something that shoots continous flame then the Chiense invented the first flame thrower, but IF you just define the flame thrower as something that shoots out burst of flame, then the Byzantine Empire invented it first. But to get away from this controversy and leave it to the historians to decide, I therefore used the word "Continuous flame thrower" in my first comment to clearly indicate that the Chinese did in fact invent a continuous flame thrower, a closer cousin to the modern flame thrower.

Ummmm Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO6I5OZpRDI
There's indeed a difference.
Anyway:
What you'll see at the end of the video is a hand multiple rocket launcher made in China, and they build it to test it! I thought that was pretty cool, to make something from the ancient time and then test it in modern times.
Hwacha tested and confirmed by myth busters.
This is great you guys! More and more intellectual information are coming to MU Forum and not just kiddie dramas and stuff. 😛

Did you even read the wiki link? If not then take a look at it.
Sure , ancients couldn't make napalm BUT they did (according to the researchers) use petrolium as a basic substance.
And it DID shoot continous flames. It was LIQUID that spew out of compressed air siphons , but it also came in the form of crenade-like ammunition with the use of catapelts.

Yes, in fact I did. A continuous flame thrower is characterized by continuous stream of air-fuel mixture. The Chinese invented the double piston mechanism to make this happen. The Byzantine, on the other hand, squirted in-continuous amount of fuel. Rather like a large syringe of flame. So there's a difference.
Another more trustworthy site than simply the free encyclopedia which every college professor absolutely detested since the beginning is this Discovery Science clip. Watch from 2:10 to whenever it ends.

the first that comes into my mind when i think about which would be my "favorite ancient weapon of war" is that it would need to be easy to use and maybe somewhat elegant.
the weapon of choise would probly be a katana but then again a tonfa pair would be nice too.

my favorite weapon is a scythe...i'm sure it's pretty ancient, too, considering how ineffective it would be against a modern weapon in present time..
scythes are sophisticated to me...i would much prefer a "manual" weapon than an "automatic" weapon, despite the obvious differences in capabilities and effectiveness....automatic and mechanical weapons like guns can injure or kill things too easily....i believe a person who carries and uses a gun do not feel the same weight of a life as a person who wields a sword or a scythe

My Favorit Ancient Weapon of War is The Human, Both mind and Body.
They are both an Existence to be feared, since it is, the original eapons of mankind and theya re still in use today.
(and that the body is a weapon, does not jsut point towards martial art, you can train it in other wawy to become an efficent tool for killing).
You might say that, for me to say that The Human is a weapon of war is wrong, but humas have always used each other in otehr to destroy each other.
If you want to succeed
Then you don't need Good Luck
You need the ability to overcome Bad Luck
Happines and Light needs a source to exist
Hatred fuels itself and Darkness exist where there is no Light
