Two More ‘Pacific Rim’ Blueprints Illustrate the Guts of Guillermo del Toro’s Giant Robots
Viral marketing for the new film Pacific Rim just started. It is a Guillermo del Toro film that will be a homage to Japanese monsters and giant mechs. The story's pretty much about monsters rising from the Pacific Ocean and attacking the west coast. In order to fight these monsters, known as Kaiju (the Japanese term for "strange beast," also used to term monsters such as Godzilla), the government creates giant mechs, called Jaegers, homages to Japanese creations such as Gundam and Eureka 7. Each Jaeger is piloted by two people, one who controls the left hemisphere, one who controls the other. The two main characters of the story must settle their differences in order to pilot a legendary, but out-dated Jaeger.
I love this new western take on two of Japan's most popular media! I have faith that it will be a great success. Sure, you can watch monsters fighting mechs in Power Rangers, but honestly, those fighting sequences are terribad. I have faith that Pacific Rim will deliver in the action and CGI departments. What are your thoughts on this upcoming film?

If it's by the Japanese anyone can guarantee its going to beat anything like power rangers to a pulp...
On that note, I haven't seen a Japanese movie for ages and counting (The last time I remember watching one was either Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited away way way way back on Cartoon Network, or was it Toonami...? I don't remember...it was on the Cartoon Network Channel I know that...). I'd love to check this one out! However, I'm pretty foreign when it comes to Mech anime or manga (In fact, I am somewhat ashamed to call myself an anime fan because it was only a few months ago I became aware of Gundam facepalm Oh that reminds me...I still need to get around to those... 😔 ), but the blueprints already drew me in somewhat (these are some big robots, judging from how puny the human scale is to it 😐 ).
All and all, it looks interesting, I'll be keeping an eye on this one. 😀

Well, you don't necessarily need to watch Gundam to appreciate mech anime! Eureka Seven and Code Geass are other good examples of mech anime. The only monster anime I can think of is Squid Girl 😛 The idea is pretty similar...she's a squid girl who emerged from the sea in order to subdue humanity...
Anyway, the Jaegers definitely take a lot of inspiration from Gundam mechs. As you said, the Jaegers are huge in comparison to a human, much like in Gundam.
