Hi, I am having some problems with wireless. I have a Linksys router and am using a compact g usb adapter for my mom's computer upstairs. So right now I am using just plain Linksys software. My mom's computer is about in the middle of my house with the box being in my room(I am using wired myself). Now the main two problems she has with it is 1. The signal for the connection I created is always fluctuating but never even hit's close to 50% and then there is some other signal called Turbo that she tries connecting to and it fluctuates as well 2. When she is connected sometimes it will disconnect or she can't even connect at all and it takes like 10mins or less before I can get it up working for her.

So I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions on fixing it? I was thinking of installing dd-wrt to boost the signal and possibly get better performance out of it

If you're connection is just generally being off, maybe, but it seems like the connection is only on your mother's end, and like the weak signal can mostly be explained by her being far away (usually all sorts of possible interference). Also, is her usb stick buggy?

And which linksys do you have and how old is it? they flake out after a while (probably 'cause linksys has some of the worst power issues around), My old wrt54gc started dropping connections write and left, even after an expensive antenna upgrade. I just switched to a gl and it's pretty stable. Have you tried a simple reboot (turn of modem, then router, wait, restart modem, wait for all lights to turn on and not blink, restart router)

Also, note that if you are using a usb extension cable to plug the usb stick, if the cable is more than 1 meter long the device may not get enough power, this could be a reason u get disconnections all the time.

ive heard they always die after a bit of time or taking too much data for too long. age might the issue?

i personally just use a cord to avoid the issue altogether
