It all depends on the scanlators. Licenced means someone its selling it legally out of japan, ie. the the US. So it wouldn't be ethical to continue to give the manga for free when the people can buy it in a bookstore. Maybe if it hasn't been licenced in the scanlators country, or if they feel that they would like to keep going on for the people who can't buy it, then they will keep doing it. Though probably in a more underground way to make sure they don't get problems from the publishers.

If you can read it online you can probubly download it from somewhere too.
But usually (as far as I know) when a manga is licensed the scanelators stop working on it... Although that doesn't seem to be the case with the popular manga like Naruto and alike.
Maybe it depends on the realeses of the magazine those manga are licensed at...

even with them licensed, i notice they continue to scan them cause they won't be licensed /everywhere/ and not many people even have access to it

for me, i live in north america, and naruto is about 100 chapters or so behind, so i like to get the newest chapters and such. and thats the case for many manga

They most certainly do continue in about half the cases. And if it's popular, someone will do it even if the original group has some semblance of moral fiber and stops. Really, the reason that all of us old timers stop is outdated... we used to say that we were translating stuff "to get it out to the public because no one else will do it", but as of about 6 years ago there are lots of companies that want to do it legitimately. Now groups are doing it for ad profits, e-peen, or the love of manga and seeing people happy. So now there's pretty much no reason to stop other than your group's leader's personal moral code.

You forgot one other reason to stop doing something. And that's all the annoying asshats who didn't even know the manga existed until it got licensed, and afterwards show up to whine because they now want something for free that could otherwise cost them money.

It doesn't stop the first wave, but at least they give up after a while.

and i totally agree XD, they/we do that, with everything XDDD
but its 2 bad for those who read the manga not bcz its famous but bcz they like to read it...

Even thoi was asking this for a Manhwa, that is kinda famous(at least i think the rate is high)

a lot of the times the scanlator group will drop it but there are still a lot of scalator groups that hasnt dropped there projects cause of licenses and if the manga is good another group picks it up
