i don't understand what you're proposing...how can the admins make the forum "bigger"? do you mean to add more sub-forums? it's not like there's a limitation to how many topics/threads you can make in this current forum...
Posting is up to people~ òÖ

Then how do you suggest we split things up even more?

I suggest splitting up Shounen/Seinen, Shoujo/Josei, Yaoi/Yuri to each there own sub forum, this way it will make your bandwidth go down due to not as many topics on the same section thus making more space avaliable for more things to add later.

It's pretty hard to split them,
since we'd then need sub forums such
as "horny teens discussing pr0nz" or
"spearfishing." :\

Not good enough, as those are the least busy forums already

I understand that, but if you do that you WILL have more space for other things.
Or just delete old threads no one uses anymore.

In the case of having multiple repeat threads, some topics are easier to find than others...hence, even locked, unused threads serve a purpose to redirect us to the original unlocked thread.

but even for multi threads, you should be able to have the admin go into his admin CP and search for all threads of that kind.

The way we find topics is the same with how every other user does, the search forums function.

I get what you're saying, But with the forum the way it is(the way its styled) i cant picture a subforum being put in place...
I do agree tho, some forums could be grouped together to save space.

Making subforum doesn't decrease bandwidth usage or save space.
Querying a database for the first 25 (or something like it) from a list of 1000 makes absolutely no difference from a list of 2000. Plus, it's not like everyone is going to go from page 1 to last page of each forum they visit - unless they're a bot. but then bots' are going to visit everything anyways (including subforum). The threads being moved from one place to another again, doesn't save space. It's taking the exact same space, it's just that they point to a different forum.
Lastly, deleting old threads are generally considered to be an unacceptable practice by most. What if you want to read something old? What if there's something important and it could be old? Solid rules cannot be used in determining which threads are useless old threads and useful. Lot of sites even have "trash" or "archive" forums to move even spam there instead of just deleting.
Does MU even have bandwidth/space problems?
There's also a saying in computational efficiency. It doesn't matter how many times you make something more efficient if that part you improved is a small part of your system. Even a small improvement on a big part of the system however is a huge help.

We have more server load issues than bandwidth or space problems. But since we're a database site, most of that comes from searches, which is exactly why the search bar on the top-right is "broken"
Splintering the forums as you suggested will not change anything except the layout of the where each thread goes
