Granted, I've heard so many different reasons why it's on hiatus over the years, but from what I've gathered lately, his illness was only during one of the hiatuses and the rest have been either to make a better storyline or protesting about the weekly chapter schedule or both.

Really, if it's any of the latter... Just end it. Naruto and One Piece (to name a few) manage to churn out quality week after week, but he takes hiatus after hiatus and all he has to show for it is the Chimera Ant arc? (I only read up until some siege on a castle (?) but up till that point, it felt like a filler-arc and not much else).

Just like that mythical PS3-game The Last Guardian, there really should come a time when people should just let it go. HxH's mangaka obviously can't deliver. Regardless of reason, it doesn't really matter. * The Last Guardian and * HxH if he doesn't keep the weekly pace going for a LONG, LONG, LONG, LONG time (minimum of four years, for sure).

It sucks, because there are times when HxH is beyond amazing. But his behaviour shouldn't really be rewarded.

-edit-

And if it is because of health-issues, the very least he can do is get a ghostdrawer to at least speed up THAT process and focus strictly on the story. It's not like his art is much to look at, anyway.

No complaints, but Naruto and One Piece churn out quality week after week? Really?

I don't understand why you're complaining. You know that arc was over before the long hiatus and yet you haven't even skipped it and read the rest, even though it's being published now and to my knowledge he hasn't said anything about stopping again? Actually, I think most series would have gotten axed after all these hiatuses but the fact that it's still going must mean there's a significant fan base.

Don't be so spoiled by weekly schedules, it's his story let him write it at his pace. Just because a weekly schedule is good for fans, doesn't mean it's good for the development process, from what I understand, doing a weekly manga is far more than a full time job. Normal literature is just written at the author's own pace and if the fans complain about speed, it's considered okay for the author to say screw you. Some authors even die before completing their work and no one criticizes them for not taking their health into account and finishing it early.

Video games are made by dozens if not hundreds of people and even if the head developer dies or disappears, he can be replaced, so sure complain about them all you want but a mangaka owns his work. Not only does he do almost all the work, but it's also his own personal work and piece of art.
