Looks like it's for good this time. It's not clear what happened exactly but my money's on DMCA complaint or a more serious kind of threat of legal action.

However the owner says they're involved in a new manga-related project, so we'll see how what happens next.

So i was correct that the reports of Mangalator´s death have been greatly exaggerated as it´s more skilled at getting resurrected than Jesus.

The site is further schedule to fully come back in a week or so and the manga are even easier to read now too. You can't keep a good (wo)man down it seems.

And so you were. Once again I find myself split between seeing this as good news or downright horrible news, sigh.

I doubt closing registration will keep the DMCA sharks away from Otakumole for long, though. If they managed to get it down before, it's only logical to assume one of them had already registered and can now see everything a registered user can.

The existence of Mangalator is unequivocally bad news, in that it puts Japanese raws up for all to read, including Japanese persons.

We've all heard over the years that Japanese manga publishers haven't seriously gone after scanlators because they mainly care about their domestic market. That is because they are insular in their thinking, apparently, and even more importantly because they have a rabid captive otaku public right there at home to make big money off of.

If fools start posting Japanese raws for all to easily see, including the Japanese public, that can cut into sales in Japan. Publishers will be FURIOUS. They will go after "pirates" (which we all are) all out.

Mangalator is a threat to scanlation.

OM introduced a feature in late 2015 that allows a user to invite 3 people to the site via a custom link which will then "burn after reading". Your account needs to have been created before a specific date to have gotten this privileged and your invited friends don´t get invites of their own. Mine have all been given away to pm friends and this isn´t an invitation to create a soon-to-be-locked MU thread to start begging.
You all now know that there is a chance peak behind the curtain so be creative or logical in which avenues you need to be perused and you will succeed.
OM´s functionality is now better than ever before, the community is very nice and appreciative of everyone´s hard work, the site´s alexia rank is staggering for what it is and the amount of scanlations that ended up staring thanks to OM is highly impressive and climbing! OM can always go away again but i could also die tomorrow for all i know.
I thus thank everyone involved for their work (you may recognize familiar MU faces) and consider OM to be the best thing that happened to the translation scene of female targeted manga in a decade. Shoujo is my 2nd most read demographic from a statistical standpoint btw. Interesting eh?

I lastly regularly update and categorize as many MU pages as i can to give back to OM´s (and obviously MU´s) database due to the way OM syncs back ever time an update of an entered manga occurs. I recommend everyone who feels secure in giving out descriptions, genres and categories to do the same. Sharing is caring .
