This week's poll was suggested by NoKissNoLife. Would having a good virtual/digital life be enough to satisfy you? Would escaping from this physical reality be enough?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: At what age are you going to stop acting for the future (saving money, climbing corporate ladder, eating right, exercising, raise family, etc) and focus on enjoying yourself and be in the moment?
Choices:
20 years old - votes: 600 (20.1%)
30 years old - votes: 376 (12.6%)
40 years old - votes: 385 (12.9%)
50 years old - votes: 458 (15.4%)
60 years old - votes: 529 (17.8%)
70 years old - votes: 218 (7.3%)
80+ years old - votes: 413 (13.9%)
There were 2979 total votes.
The poll ended: March 26th, 2022 9:13am PDT

Live in the moment right from the start?

From a scientific/biological POV, the answer can only be „no“. Unless we get to a point where we can simulate a real-life environment in virtual reality with 100% accuracy. But I doubt that will happen in the next 150-200 years.

To be honest... that is basically my current life. Various medical issues over the last 15-20 years has built up to the point where I can't really have a satisfying real life. And the issues have been creeping into my ability to play games recently as well.

Virtual life doesn't mean anything. I'm guessing it's referring to having friends over the internet and the like. There's nothing virtual about that, the internet is as real as it gets.

…..that‘s a joke, right? Internet can only satisfy 2 of the 5 senses (sight and hearing), if even that. In no way is (today‘s) internet even remotely comparable to real-life interaction.

But why am I even surprised that people on this site are choosing virtual life over real life, lmao.
You 40% „yes“-chooser need professional help. Seriously.

Well so 5 senses:
Sight - way better in virtual
Hearing - i don't really care either way, not into music or sounds
Taste - sure i do eat in order to remain healthy, but i don't really do it for enjoyment...
Touch - well i yes that one i give you but i mean sometimes i touch myself watching virtual stuff
Smell - i have weak sense of smell anyway if anything real life smells are for the most part annoying rather than pleasant.

Also it is a lot in interpretation. Really depends on how you define boring real life...

I saw The Matrix
I know that my senses are just electrical signals interpreted by my brain
My imagination is infinitely more satisfying that reality could ever be
but... when senses are starved for a long duration the human body rewards you when you do finally indulge
like when you do a 3hr workout, and then eat some stale food; it tastes like manna from heaven

I used the same explanation on a first date when I was asked if I was having a good time
didn't get a second date

I would rather have a fulfilling non-virtual life but I could probably adapt to the opposite and still be content? It’s hard to imagine what a great virtual life would involve for me though as I’m not too into online stuff.

That‘s…. not what I meant. When I wrote „5 senses“ I meant it specifically in an interaction with other humans. We are social herd animals. Yes, even you guys on the autism spectrum. 😉
And like I wrote, sight and hearing are the only senses you can somewhat use online (via Zoom, Skype, etc.). Though, I assume that most of you have social anxiety so you probably just chat/write on forums (like here) anyway, so now we are on 0/5 senses.

Look, you can justify your mental problems all you want but NO ONE can be happy or even content with an exclusively online/virtual life. It‘s simple biology.

Happy? Probably not.
Content? Well it does not take much to be content for some people...

Fair point. I guess if you have a roof over your head and enough to eat/drink, you could probably get by.
Not a really worthwhile life though, if that‘s all you ever have.

How about a grea real life? Then it wouldn't matter if the virtual life boring or not..

Well, my answer for this poll is no. Virtual life is just virtual life; it's unreal no matter how amazing it looks like. (Of course, it would be a different story if I somehow got isekai-d somwhere permanently and have a great life there lol.)

I sure would like to see how you explain that "simple biology" and I honestly doubt you can anyway.
