All of the shoujo made from the 70's and 80's (maybe even older) but I can't name names. Most of them aren't scanlated yet and a few of them are released in the U.S.

Such as Yume no Tsuzuki. But some people can be put off by the old-school art style. It is scanlated, I think.

Bumping this thread (and repeating myself from a now-locked thread), as people have periodically been starting new threads with similar topics:

Ryuguden & Paperakyu - For whatever reason, Matsunaga's quite an unpopular mangaka, but I love all his works.

Heaven's Door (KOIKE Keiichi) & G (KOIKE Keiichi) - I guess people don't care for psychedelic manga?

Takemitsu-Zamurai - One of Matsumoto Taiyou's most accessible works in terms of both the art and the story, and a genuine masterpiece.

Noramimi
Coo's World - I liked this a bit more than its sequel.

3, Street of Mysteries - A collection of oneshots by Mizuki Shigeru focused on the nature of life and death, ranging from quiet contemplation to horror, and occasionally branching into the flat-out bizarre.

Kuuki no Soko - Another oneshot collection, this time by Osamu Tezuka, spanning a wide variety of genres and topics. Quite dark and generally pessimistic toward humanity.

To start off with a few recommendations:
Solanin
Jiraishin
Planetes --> Don't understand why considering it has a popular anime series
Mushishi --> Same as Planetes

Great recommendations!

Desert Punk - you can read why I love his series in the comment section if you follow the link
Dorohedoro - now this one isn't as unpopular as Desert Punk but it's still vastly underappreciated
Kaiji - one of the best manga there is
