Gender Bender / Slice of Life / Sports
My poll was against demographics 😉 .
(Harem is my "runner up" choice if anyone cares and i would have also went with it if Adult was up instead of Hentai.)
I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

There's nothing I hate more about Japanese works than indecisiveness, and where does it appear the most ? In anything with a harem, of course. I would also say that I simply hate the theme, but it may simply be that I haven't seen any well executed one. It should be romcom, though, but harem has become a synonym of that.
I would even say that, while hentai might be the least capable genre, harem is even less likely to have any narrative value. It's also a genre I don't avoid, though, so I wouldn't have voted for that, but I would second smut for I believe it's only half assed hentai.

Martial arts for me. It's just people beating each other up to see who is better at beating people up at the core of it, and I'm very rarely interested in a character's growth in his/her martial prowess.

Darn, I chose harem, but I probably should've voted Mecha. I only avoid Gender Bender series if they revolve around cross-dressing guys or anything male to female related.

I avoid the sports tag. I find it boring except for the manga REAL which is one of my favorite manga.
Ecchi.
Especially this combination: Ecchi, harem, school life

Definitely harem, it's bound to be a huge set of overused cliché and no plot, while the comedy could be as good without this particular genre. It also tends to attract the ecchi genre, which I find annoying to say the least. The sad thing is, many harem can hide themselves in the beginning, so that you would realize it's a harem when you've already invested a lot of time in the series (like what happened with Nisekoi). I don't fall for this trap anymore, though, even in the very first chapter of a series my harem sense can start tingling.
My current top 3:
Fullmetal Alchemist
Pandora Hearts
3-gatsu no Lion

Yaoi is demographics not genre... This poll also doesn't include:
Yuri, shotacon, lolicon, shounen, shoujo, seinen, josei, shoujo ai, shounen ai
No, demographic is used to divide the audience by age range, i.e. shounen, seinen, josei and shoujo, or in the west, children, young adult and adult. Genre tells you the contents of the work, which is what yaoi does.
Horror and Gore.
I don't mind reading gory stuff, but there are times when it crosses the line ( Looking at you Mai-chan's Daily Life ) .

I avoid tragedy and historical myself. I read most other genres so long as it has comedy or fanservice in it.
The only genre I actively avoid is Ecchi because it's pointless and annoying to me. At least for smut, it's pr0n targeted towards females since there isn't really any hentai that does that.
I'm definitely surprised at gender bender having such a high percentage and .1% from hentai since people are so much more vocal about hentai, ecchi, harem, smut, and others.

Tragedy. Putting it as a tag pretty much ruins the ending and normally I don't want to see the protagonist suffer. At least not without a good reason.
Second most is horror but not for any particular reason (just not a horror fan).
It's a question of what I want at the particular time, so Hentai even though I voted Ecchi because I prefer stories to be stories and sexual content to be sexual content, and ecchi to be an ecchi focused story rather than casual fanservice. But I've definitely not cared/avoided the ecchi tag, so I didn't think long enough before voting 🤣

I didn't choose my least favorite because I'm pretty willing to give anything in those genres (adult/hentai, mecha, ecchi, historical, harem, romance and sports) a try to see if they actually keep me. For me, the genres I tend to avoid are drama and comedy, not because the genre themselves don't interest me, but because I tend to be a little judgmental on what I find funny or if things seem far too dramatic for me to handle. It ended up being a choice on which one am I more likely to avoid if it doesn't seem my thing. In the end, I chose drama.
