Emoticons

I was looking through some series today, and I noticed there was a random emoticon (this one: 😉 ) in the description of Encounter. I fixed it, leaving only the closing parenthesis, but once I submitted it, the emoticon showed up again. I tried again, and the same problem occured, so I improvised by putting in dashes instead of parentheses.
Then in the description of Endo Hiroki Tanpenshuu, I fixed some minor grammatical errors, and then when I submitted it, all the closing parentheses turned into that emoticon! I deleted them and submitted again; they showed up again. This has never happened to me before today. It is making me quite aggravated, so would you please stop the 😉 icon from showing up where it is not explicitly summoned?
Edit:
Forgive my carelessness; upon a second look, I notice that the 😉 icon only seems to insert itself after characters like quotation marks and foreign characters ("uncommon" characters then, I guess?). (One can observe this in the descriptions of those two manga that I mentioned.)

Uhhh, as with all emoticons, they're actually icons substituted for text, in the case of 😉 ,it's just a
; )
but put together
It's actually your fault for using it. For both examples you gave me, you do not need a semicolon anyways, so it's easily prevented by taking out the unnecessary semicolon

Ah, no, you misunderstand.
I'm aware that typing a semicolon and closing parenthesis in succession yields the 😉 icon. I guess you're drawing your conclusion based on the fact that, when one clicks on "edit" (or whatever administrators do to see the all-text version of the description) for both of those manga, one can see a semicolon followed by a closing parenthesis in all cases where the 😉 icon shows up.
But, I'm positive that I did not use a semicolon in either of those cases. A grammar nazi like me would be pretty ashamed to have used a semicolon so incorrectly. I posted because when one uses, not a semicolon, but rather another character (such as a quotation mark or a character from a foreign language) that precedes a closing parenthesis, a semicolon is automatically inserted upon clicking "submit," resulting in a 😉 icon.
So, I know it's a little redundant, but I'll try to clarify my description: Before I clicked "submit," everything was correct, and there was not a single instance of a semicolon followed by a closing parenthesis to be found. After I clicked "submit," little 😉 icons appeared in the places where closing parentheses were preceded by a quotation mark or a Japanese character. After that happened, when you click on "edit" to see the description only in text, you can see that semicolons have, for no explicable reason, been automatically inserted in each place where a 😉 exists.
Could you please fix it?
If you want to see it happen, try typing in a quotation mark (or foreign character) followed by a closing parenthesis in a reply, and then preview or submit it. I will do it myself, as well: " 😉
Please don't tell me that this is only happening to me, or I will cry.
Edit:
Please excuse me if I've been a bit overbearing...
I was really quite vexed to be considered so incognizant and stupid as to have put in semicolons for no reason and then to have complained about it.
I've encountered the same problem when
I have posted some code in private convoes
and some of it transforms into emoticons...
I think there should be some method of

I agree with mams, there should be an option to turn them off, like in the user CP or something, same for sigs and all that, since sometimes a persons sig can just take up space and make a page load longer...
plus i really have no interest in seeing alot of peoples sigs, since i id them by the avatar and name, and there is also the thing that if needed you can just visit their userpage to see it.

^I agree with the above post...sigs take a lot of time to load...specially when my connections is slow.

I've had it happen too; quite annoying. (I think I've just added an extra space or something to make it go away...)

Sounds like maybe the special characters are being converted to character entities, because those always end in a semicolon. I'm just guessing, and I don't know if the user's browser does the conversion automagically or not. Might be worth looking into, but I'm in no position to say with authority.

Yeah, happened to me too. Did the same and it went away.
Annoying, but nothing you can't live with.
